Hello. I asked this in another thread I posted but am wondering if more people will see it if I start a new topic.

I had asked about a magazine for the working GSD and was informed I can only get it if I join the USCA.  However, I guess I can't be a member of the GSDCA-WDA.

So, what are the differences between the 2 groups?

Also, I am thinking of trying to get a BH and FH on my pup someday. I also heard I could do obedience and tracking but without the protection.  Is this correct?

I am just not ready for the protection stuff but I am sure my pup would be fine!

Thank you in advance....

The difference between GSDCA-WDA and USCA?  Essentially none.  That question equates to Which is better- Ford or Chevy?  My advice is to first associate with a local club that satisfies your training needs and compatibility.  Then, if there is a need to join a national club, then hook up to the national club affiliated with your local club.  Don't know much about the WDA magazine.  USCA publishes a slick and attractive bi-monthly magazine.  But neither organization offers subscription only plans.  If you seek training publications, suggest you visit leerburg.com.

Hey Smiley

I personally find the difference between the two - that USA has more to offer me.    Spelled out - there isn't alot of WDA clubs in my area which means there is no where to trial my dog when and if he is ready.....   I don't care to drive 12 hours one way - when there is a USA club around the corner - or jut down the street.....  But as Dog Bum states - not much difference in the two.   But the availablity of clubs is a biggy to me.

It is true you can do OB and Tracking without the protection phase.    You have to do them on difference days in a two day trial.    They are the same routines as the schutzhund 1,2, and 3 - just no protection routine.

Hope this helps

Dog Bum and Yogi Bear...thank you both very much for the information! As you can see, I am a bit ignorant to the working world!  However, I definitely want to check it out!!

I will look for clubs in my area. I wonder if they will let me join if I am not hard core into protection?  I guess I'll just have to ask and find out!!

Thanks again and have a great day!! :-)
