zobelhund

I have a bitch due anyday now. Actually today is day 62 from the first tie.
She does seem tired and has been panting alot. I've been taking temperatures for a few days now.. current temp is 100.6. When I let her out to potty she went to run around the yard fetching sticks, I quickly stopped her. Is this normal for a bitch thats due any day?

I'm just wondering if I dont have another few days. Called vet today, she suggested I wait until wednesday.. if nothing by wednesday bring her in. Can they induce her?

Thanks!!!

Hey Zobelhund,

quite normal - I would not be concerned at the moment. Yupp, I would not play with her "fetch" , but on the other hand, she is not "sick".
Watch her, when she changes her "normal" behavior, starting to nest, rubbing her tummy against doorframes or fencing, something is going to start !! Comfort her, let her know where it is ok to nest...
Dont be too excited around her, she will feel your excitement. I know, hard to do !!

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

My concern is how long is too long? whats the longest a dog carries? I thought 64 days? I am at 62 days now.. I know its all just a number game with the days... I just hope she delivers this week!

Thanks!

Average is 63 days - but this is not written in stone ! 65 days can be just fine as 61 can be fine as well. It is just like as it is with humans - no 100% sure due day !!
good Luck !

I had a female go 67 days once, everything was fine, we did an ultrasound around 65 days to check the puppies were OK....anyway the change in her behaviour can happen very suddenly so be prepared any time now....

Look at it this way ..... she may not have concieved for 2-4 days after the first tie ..... ? If she is stressed you will be able to see it and recognize it quite easily. She sounds quite relaxed .............. when the temp falls below 100 with my dogs it has been 12-24 hrs then labor starts .....

Thank you!
She has dropped down to 99 a few times over the past 2 days. I just re-checked temp its 100.5.
She is relaxed I can tell you that. LOL She also hasnt refused food, OR TREATS! lol.

Do all females pretty much refuse food before they deliver? (I mean a majority)

Thank you all for your help. This is my first litter. I have all my whelping information, vet on call, and whelping kit ready! :)

Most females don't want to eat the day before or sometimes even 2 days before - not all of them though.  You will soon notice when she starts to get agitated, pacing, digging up the floor, panting etc....Good luck I hope all goes well.....
