For those of you who ask whether they should take a GSD's front dew claws off.............I thought you might like to see an xray of what a dogs dew claw looks like.
I can't remember who here said it but they are right....a dogs front dew claws really are another digit and to take them off would be like cutting their thumb off.

Techically, it would be like removing the first joint of the thumb, and not the whole thumb. A dog's dew claw, under that horny sheath of the nail, contains a claw-shaped bone, as well as blood vessels and nerves. (You know all about the blood vessels if you've ever cut a claw too short!)
