The very pretty brindle dogs this breeder posted on this thread are the spittin' images of Dutch Shepherds.  Fancy that.

I bred a litter late 60's which had black saddle and brindle markings (in the UK). I telephoned Dr Willis to check if the colour was still acceptable in the breed and he answered positively. All were sold as pet/companions, but not for breeding. Margaret

Margaret

Brindle was an acceptable colour but the anybody that knows anything about simple genetics knows that brindles have long since gone . What exactly did Dr Willis say ? He ansewered positively to a question that simply was asking " is the colour accaptable "? This does not tell us anything. Brindle colour has gone & anyone saying different hasnt a clue

AKC DNA is a joke....they have no real database.
Anyone can have their "AKC Reg" dog, DNA'd with AKC....
The fact that there is a prominent dog in the "brindle's" pedigree that CANNOT be DNA verified (being from Germany?)...is cause for hesitation or alarm to say the least.
ALL GSD dogs from Germany must have DNA recorded with the SV.
*Why not have the SV send you the necessary paperwork for DNA profiling...and you have the DNA tested with the SV database in Germany?*...test the "direct descendant" of the German bred dog.?!*
I know that if they were my dogs, and I wanted to profess "pure breeding"...I would do whatever needed to substantiate my claim.

I wanted to add....
If there is even the slightest bit of concern of "genetics" generations back.(.ie...4-6...)having the possibility of mixture of a Dutch Shepherd or anything else.....insisting that they are "pure bred brindle GSD" is being dishonest, and less then ethical.
Personally....I would love to see a pure bred brindle GSD...
*MO is not intended for breeder bashing....it's just simply an honest opinion.*

Man those are some ugly dogs, it should be illegal to breed out of German standard....it's one thing to have not the greatest pigment or a white spot but that is just going too far, I'm sure they have temperament issues as well, people like this "breeder" are one of the reasons German Shepherds hae bad names...like one person said they look like oops litters done on purpose, disgusting and they should be shut down/

Crhuerta, absdolutely and good post.  I said basically the same thing about the German dog and DNA only you put it a lot better than me.  Notice when she was loudmouthing me still no pedigree on where this brindle mysteriously popped up.  And I agree that if it were my dogs I would be doing everything known to man to make sure the lines were strong.  JMO it's just all bullshit........
