Hello all when it comes to wiring money to overseas specifically to hungary what is the route to go? How much does it normally cost to do so? And how do I go about doing it. I have the address and the account number, I have never done this before and I need some assistance. Thanks so much

You should call your bank and find out what their procedure is for bank wire transfers. Are you sending US dollars, or Hungarian Forint? You need to remember to do a currency conversion if you are using dollars. You will need the bank name, bank address, bank number (this is like our routing number in the US), bank account owner name, bank account owner address, occasionally bank account owner phone number, bank account number, and amount you are wiring. Make sure you put on the wire transfer your name or reference the (I assume dog?) item you are purchasing. This way you have a reference in case there are problems. I have never sent a wire to Hungary, but I am sure it is similar to sending to Germany. My bank charges me $30 for this (International) service. For Germany, my bank also requires a SWIFT code and BIC (bank identifier code). It's not that hard, and your bank should be able to help you. If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me privately. Good luck!

Western Union is the easiest although not the cheapest way. My bank was completely useless when I tried to wire money to Germany a few months ago, so rather than waste more time and aggravation with them I went with Western Union. The cost varies depending on how much money you are sending. If you go to their website at westernunion.com they will provide the exchange rate and calculate what the fees are. They have outlets all over the place at supermarkets, etc. You will want to check with the people in Hungary to find out exactly where it is most convenient for them to receive the money, which may not be their bank.

But if your bank can help you, they will be significantly cheaper - I think my bank also said the fee was $30 before they started coming up with whacky requirements that made no sense either to me or to the German bank where I was trying to wire the money.

You have the answer Your bank will supply the required form also arrange the exchange of Sterling to whatever the receiver requires the approx cost starta at £10 for three day receipt (other end) You will need full details of the bank you are wireing too and I mean full details(supplied by the receiver) In conclusion be aware there is no legal redress that is easy between countries

Western Union is extremely high, better to go thru your bank. Be careful of the information when party has an exchange bank involved. The right US bank should have no problem, Ive used Commerce everytime with no problems. Sent to Germany not to Hungary!

western union may be high, but i have found it to be much faster than a bank transfer. depends on how fast you need the money to arrive...

I wired money to Belgium last year, through my bank. Had a couple of problems the first time we tried, only in that the person from my bank was inexperienced in doing a foreign wire transfer. After she talked to someone higher up with experience, it went through without any problems. My bank charged $15. Marsha Seck

When you do a wire transfer, keep in mind that the recipient might have to pay fees to his or her bank as well. You should add these to the amount you owe. It happened to me years ago, when I received a wire transfer from Mexico to my U.S. account and once from the Netherlands into my German account. I never received reimbursement for either, so now I will add these fees to the amount owed to me. Chris
