Hello, i wanted to import a 2yr old gsd from germany to los angeles, ca and was told by the breeder shipping thru petair inclu box and so on cost 1115 euros. I was hoping if someone can suggest me a more affordable way to import from germany without compromising the comfort and safety of the dog. thx

That sounds about right. You could try to find someone who is coming back and would agree to take it as a companion...that runs around $300 or so.

find someone flying from germany and have them check the dog as baggage.

Yep; that sounds right; I just checked also to fly 6 mo. old from germany to LAX and it was $1150. (Euro was $l.4l/US dollar). That is probably about the best you can do unless you can get someone to fly with her. Nan

Thanks for all the reply. Had no idea shipping was so expensive from germany!?! I wish there was a service that can pair you with someone who's coming from abroad.

You could also just fly over there yourself and come back with them. Get a mini-vacation in Germany for about the same cost as shipping.

there are many excellent dogs from imported F1 stock here in the USA, why spend the extra money to import?

I wish i can take a vacation as it seems like the same price as one way shipping but its not possible
I'm hoping i can somehow keep it under $1000 but doesn't seem possible @ moment. I'm sure there are more than plenty excellent dogs here but something about this one I want but only thing keeping me away is the expensive shipping cost.

Yep Sitas Mom; you are right and that is what I decided to do when the time comes; spend my $ on the dog and training instead of the cost of shipping. HOpe I can find something good when the time comes. Nan

A friend just shipped their adult male back from Frankfurt to Los Angeles, 745 Euros You can book the flight yourself through petair and also the crate, that way you are assured of the price you are paying for shipping and there is no padding going on, although they may charge to drive the dog to the airport as some breeders are very far from the airport, like 4 or more hours. Just be sure to get everything straight before you agree to the purchase.
Good luck,
