GSDhunter, well there are several things that could be an issue here, but most are food/digestive system related. I will preface the following statements by saying that by nature, the GSD has a delicate digestive system. While some dogs do relatively well on all types/brands of foods, certain dogs do poorly on certain foods; so maybe a change in the food souce? Is the dog fed once per day, or is the daily ration divided into two (2) or three (3) servings? Too much food at one (1) feeding will rush through the body and not be well digested. Is the dog "nervous"? Is he a "gulper" who does not chew his food? Is the digestive system functioning properly? Is the liver functioning properly?, Very importantly, is the pancreas functioning properly? Is there a bowel parasite inside the dog? Wow, I gave you a lot of short questions and no answers, but I think you see where I am going. Sometimes this is as simple as a change in food or a check for bowel parasites. When it is not this simple it requires a bit more time with your veterinarian to determine whether all parts of the digestive system are funtioning normally Bob-O

Could be a microbal thing as well, You could try some probias, get the gut working properly again. Every animal has little bugs in tummy to make things work right, break down foods, and when the little bugs are dammaged maybe an antibiotic was used rescently ? then it takes time for them to rebuild you can assist with Probias. Other than that I think Bob nailed it. We see alot of all he described here at the shelter, and if we treat with antibiotics for mild infections, we follow up with probias gets them back on track in no time. Good Luck.

Thanks EchoMeadows. I forgot to bring up "good bugs" issue that is very important. Bob-O

You R rite, I stay from the old school " if its not broken dont fix it". If I am having good results that is all that matters. Every once in awhile I give my just 2yr old a bag of RC as he has been showing. He has already stole a tossed salad from the table several times he luvs it, I think he would be a dog who eats rocks if you give them to him.
