However, this morning his left ear is completely flopped over. My question is, since it was up once, is that an indication that it will come back up and eventually stay up. With my female, once her ears came up they stayed and never went down.

I had one pup whose ears were up at 8 weeks and never went down again. She was the exception. She had and still has very light ear leather - light referring to weight, not color. Most of them went through all kinds of stages, and the pups with heavy, thick ear leather went through the most stagesand their ears came up the latest.

Yes I brought him home at 8 weeks. His ear leather seems to be somewhat on the light side. My females was heavier at that stage but still went up and remained up.

The pup may be gearing up to teeth. Give him things to gnaw on to exercise those little muscles that help the ears to stand. A nice knuckle-bone will do.

Something you don't want to do is think of ear forms or braces at this stage of the game, you can actually hinder the ears from standing if you do. Most every GSD pup I have ever had went through some interesting ear "positions" before they finally decided to stand permanently. One day both up, the next day one down, the next day both leaning in on each other, and so on.

He'll be 12 weeks tomorrow. I know it's still early, I just don't want him to end up with the "airplane ears" that his left is right now. I'll just be patient and wait.

i am sure they will come back up, cause they once were up.
i also had one female take 8 months for that other ear to come up.
she did a back and forth ear thing.
