Our dogs live in our home with us - all 6 of them! We crate them only during feeding (to elimate fights), and when I have to run errands. When a female is in heat we alternate crate time in btween male and female that's in heat. At night, we have 2 "lucky dogs" who get to sleep in the bedroom with us (not in our bet, but on the floor), the rest are crated for the evening. The rest of the time the are free to interact and be dogs.
We have 1 intact male gsd, 2 spay females (great dane and Aussie), 3 adult intact female gsds. We all live in harmony with out fighting.

I have a 3' x 3' wood box with a hotel peep-hole for both of them to look out of.

Pharaoh lives in the house and goes with me to most places. He really likes the coffee house nearby and Home Depot.

My two live in the house with me, eat in their crates(raw fed), sleep where they want as long as it is not in my bed.
They need a ton more training but they are loved and do as asked 90% of the time...Aiming for 100%
They go where I can take them. They stay home when I can't, and when at home they are either in a secure chain link kennel that is extra large for them to play in, or in their crates indoors, weather dependent.

Onni (intact female, 2.5 years old) lives in the house with us. She is crate trained but nowadays is seldom crated, instead she patrols the house protecting the inhabitants (2 adult humans, two kids, two cats, two geckos) from the evil UPS guy, the deer, the turkeys, the mountain lions...
She sleeps in bed with me, my husband, and the smaller of our two cats. We have a California King mattress. :)

All our dogs live inside the home with us. We have 8 dogs; 3 males + 5 females of various ages.
They sleep with us at night or where ever they like. They follow me from room to room as I clean the house.
It's like a traffic jam if i got to stop short! They lay down around the perimeter of the kitchen as I cook.
After breakfast all the dogs go for a off leash hour+ hike daily. We have a doggie door with free access in or outside through out the day. Which means constant clean up around here. We have a river running in back of our property. The dogs go for swims in warm weather, play in the mud or catch frogs to bring in the house.
I generally take the dogs with me when I run errands / family events. My husband takes a couple of the dogs with him to work every day. Those dogs travel to job sites, attend meetings, & generally the first to welcome visitors into the office. If I must leave our dogs alone during the day, they each have their own 20X20 kennel. At night if we go out they stay in crates or depending on the weather will stay in crates also.
The school bus stop is right in front of our home, where most all the kids make a pit stop to visit our dogs to play.
Our puppies are whelped inside our home also. We don't have litters too often but when we do all the dogs seem to be happy over the occasion. Our male Leonberger is the nanny of the house hold & stays by the whelping box with in 5ft. All the new additions have been welcomed by him first over the years.

In the house. The puppies are crated at night and when we aren't home but Ariel, the 2 year old never gets the door closed on her crate and she sleeps on the floor in our room at night.
