In photoshop to do this.

Type out your text ,then on your layers palette (just above your text layer) you'll see Opacity 100% and Fill 100%.

Change the fill level to 0%.

Then right Click on the text layer and select Blending Options,

Click  Bevel and Emboss

Setting to change are

Size - 4 px

Highlight Mode to 50%

Shadow Mode to 60%

Then click Drop Shadow

Set Distance to 0

Set Size to 2

These are the main setting to change but you can adjust them to suit the size of text or font used. I used the above settings for text size at 90.

Musicmaker

by Musicmaker on 12 August 2010 - 21:08

Hmmmm, I have been involved this week in a bit of controversy, I thought on a one to one basis, where I had downloaded someones pics from their Album on Facebook, and re-posted them there, quite openly, having turned the lovely pics into watercolours or Oils.   I did not intend offence, and probably did wrong to do it without asking.   I recieved a very strongly and upsetting post on Facebook about it (which fortunately I was able to delete.

I have a strong feeling that I am being referred to on Facebook, as a result of this thread on PDB, and the posters on Facebook refer to me as 'It' and 'the c**t'  -  Its all quite funny really .... It may not even be me, and I have mis-read posts - but due to having the controversy about 'stolen pics, only a few days ago, then being pointed to the posts on Facebook, I feel pretty sure its me they are referring to.

I am using the same Profile pic on here as on Facebook (that I am probably being accused of stealing!) - It is in fact my Dog 'Stanley' - (Musicmaker at BritOz) that I bred myself - Sire, my Dog, Gipfel Midnight Serenade at Britoz ( 2CCs Imp Aust) ...... Dam : Caroline at Britoz (Bred by me), a Ch Carozand Enzo Daughter.

I certainly do save (privately) pictures of GSDs, and also research pedigrees of 'English' Bloodlines.   I have a large picture collection going back to German Army Photographs over 100 years old, GSDs with 'Celebrity' owners, etc.. and I continue to collect any and all interesting or historical photographs of our lovely breed.     If people had 'watermarked' or made these photographs 'unuseable', a valuable and interesting resource for people interested in the history of the GSD would not have been possible.

I am in the throes of writing an over 900 page book which will continue from where Nem and Percy Elliots Book (The Complete Alsatian) left off.   As I want to use Pedigrees and Pictures from the late 1940's to Present, we secured advice on Copyright.

Basically unless you actually 'Copyright' a picture, article or whatever, and pay a £49 fee, nothing is copyright in the legal sense.  Once you have promulgated an article or picture on the internet 'In the Public Domain', it is no longer deemed to have no originator, intellectual or moral ownership, and - as stated, it is in the Public Domain.    Many people put 'Copyright 2010' or even use the 'c' in a circle, and think this is a copyright.  It is not.

Take a look at the recent Court Cases involving 'Pirate Bay' in Sweden, and 'Vuze' in USA and UK - Both are still distributing P2P properly copyright CDs, Films and Programs, etc - in spite of Multi Million Pound prosecution costs, to Sony,  Warner and MGM.  The last UK government was quite intent on cutting out 'Piracy' on the internet, as far as Film and CD downloads were concerned, with the onus being on the Internet Service Provider to 'Police' their customers.   The present Government has no plans to introduce or support the Bill.

So what chance has a 'poverty stricken' GSD owner got, when I (supposedly) 'steal' their pictures? ??

My pics are available for anyone to 'Steal', and I will continue to 'steal' good and interesting pics wherever I find them !!!

Kind regards to all,

The Musicmaker, John

Hi Musicmaker,

The pictures and pedigree Dale M and I have been talking about on here are to do with Hamza166 and not yourself.  He is purported to be a 13 year boy who is locking pedigrees and taking photos that do not belong to him.  We had 2 copies of our dogs pedigree and photos as being a novice I did not know how to update the items and added him in twice in error.  It is now sorted, one copy has been unlocked and deleted so all is well with us.  Definitely not you in this case at all so no problems at our end.  Just wanted to get our dog's info updated.  We would not object to his photo being used with permission as the more exposure for him the better.

All the best
Aileen

The photos that Musicmaker downloaded and copied , adapted and then put his name on over mine were my photos.

He copied photos of my dog without my knowledge or permission from my Facebook Album which is on a private friends only album. He then adapted these photos using a computer programme and then put them in his Facebook Album and also posted them on his wall. The first I knew of my photos being copied without permission was when he emailed me on Facebook several days later on Saturday telling me to take a look at the photos and they look great if you print them out and frame them and he was hoping to start "selling these" when he got better at it!!!.

What Musicmaker has failed to include in his post to everyone, is that not only did he copy several photos of my dog, he also copied photos of myself and also my niece who is a child, without permission!!!

He made a comment on my wall against my nieces photo that he loves pretty and polite little girls!

The photos of my niece who is a minor, were in my private friends only album. So only friends had access to these photos.

The photos that Musicmaker had copied and then adapted using the computer programme of myself and my niece were also displayed for everyone to see with my name on the photos masked out and with his name on the photos instead.

When I seen the photos publically displayed I sent Musicmaker a private message saying I was upset that he has taken copies of photos of my niece and my dog without permission and requested him to delete them from his Facebook and computer. When this didn't happen I then wrote a public message. The very strongly upsetting post that Musicmaker said he recieved, merely said that I was most upset he had taken it upon himself to copy photos without permission, especially of my niece and I wanted him to delete the photos from his Facebook pages and computer.

The status updates that Musicmaker made reference to on Facebook were not made by me. They were made by another person and were regarding another person.

In my personal opinion, I feel it is not acceptable for someone to be copying pictures of children, taking them from a private friends only album, modifying them and then displaying the childs picture with their name displayed on it in their own public album.

This person has publically written that they will continue stealing good and interesting pics whever they find them !

With regards to copyright this makes for very interesting reading.

http://www.copyrightservice.co.uk/copyright/copyright_myths

In particular please note the paragraph confirming that work published on the internet  is not in the public domain. And that it is a breach of copyright to copy or adapt someone elses work and that unauthorised use of  copyright work can potentially lead to legal action...

Copywrite laws set aside, Surely it's only common courtesy to ask if you can use someone's personal photos?

Hey Dale,

That watermark won't stop a good manipulator. I could take that one out myself. I've been using photoshop and other maipulating software for years when I worked for a newspaper.

Just to let you know that nothing is impossible if you want it bad enough.
