a quote from that link "“While we train them to be aggressive, they will not attack and are therefore completely safe for families,” he said. " bit like having a gun with no bullets?

If all you need is a gimick to sell a dog for that kind of money, I want one......If we all put our heads together, we can come up with lot of different reasons for people to spend that kind of money on our dogs..............$$ca ching$$
But seriously, I wonder how many of these "wonderdogs" he actually sells and to whom.

"The Schutzhund training involves odour detection and search and rescue...'
WHAT???? SINCE WHEN??
ROTFLMAO!!!
Hey, how many Schutzhund dogs do you know that aren't sleeve-happy, and will go for an intruder without being told?
I know someone who used to train protection dogs, and it took A LOT of convincing to get Schutzhund trained dogs to bite anything but a bite sleeve!

Sunsiler,
I have to agree with you.
Schutzhund is a sport.......PPD training is not.
Alot of Schutzhund dogs are sleeve happy.
The problem one helper had here.......his Schutzhund dog would bite the body suit for personal protection, but then his "grips" on the sleeve suffered.....the dog did both....but the Schutzhund (sport) part suffered points..
There are dogs that will do both.....not a tremendous amount...but depends on the individual dog.....they sometimes don't make "high" scoring sport dogs though.
I watched one dog a couple weeks ago......no problem with eating my husband (decoy), screw the sleeve. It took ALL the power of the handler to maintain control.......really nice dog! ScH3 .

Sunsilver,crhuerta:
Believe it or not there are lots of Schutzhund dogs that are not sleeve suckers, I prefer to work and train my dogs that the focus is on the man and the sleeve is nothing more then a path to the man. Not all Schutzhund practioneers are only concerened with a high point score you would be suprised at how many of us do suit work ,suspession work work in buildings, cars ,water,at nite, hidden sleeves It,s not all about the trophy or the "sport" many of use believe in the well rounded dog as it should be.

Bob,
Because you train the proper way! I am not surprised how many "practioneers" are not only in for the scores, or a podium.
But those that do compete for "high" scores, usually don't take the chance with suit work....this has been my observation.
They should be trained that way.....unfortunately, alot of average trainers don't train properly.
Bob,....you know this business.....every one knows best....that includes the trainers.
Also...alot of the dogs are merely "prey" dogs, and become fixed on the sleeve...again a training issue....and I don't even want to start a thread on that subject..
I love a "balanced" dog...prey & fighting drive. I think there are very good dogs out there, but I don't think the effort to train them properly has been a priority.....or maybe the people training & handling really don't have the knowledge??
You tell me.......I love the "sports" of dogs period.

Bob, that's great that you do what you do, but I'm willing to bet you're in the minority.
Most just want to go for the points and the trophy.
