Please do not take as offense but I am confused why so many GSDs from India and the East show up as very tall, Roach backed and skinny?  Very lanky? Clearly showlines in type but a strange exagerration.

Is this the result of selection at dog shows in India or problems with getting in dogs that meet the standard? Am I over generalizing?

Its the weather. there are people who can afford to keep their dogs in very good conditions but the climate is torturous for the animals and affects their health and overall look. You see the "dry" look especially in Indian subcontinenet

I have to agree with Vikram. The heat and humidity is a killer. Even if you import a top class dog to India it will soon look hacked out. Animals do not keep the fat that they need in the cooler climates because of the heat.

Thank, you - I was wondering because I look at the lines on many of these dogs and they look like solid lines - typcially show but solid for that type - and not typical of dogs from that lineage.

A good example is to keep a polar bear in an Indian zoo. Regardless of the airconditioners and all. They still will be pretty thin. Its nature.
