http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1f4b7RNBbEM&feature=youtube_gdata_player My 6 month Malinois Riot. It's his (and my!) second day on articles, this is my first working dog so we are learning together. We started with a hot dog peice under the article, however he enjoys his ball more than food so when we took out the food and rewarded with his ball instead he seems to be catching on quick. I'd appreciate comments & critiques on what's good what's not good, feel free to be harsh!

What type of training are you planning on doing?  Area search for article?  or IPO tracking... if it's area search then you're doing fine :)  If it's IPO tracking, that's not the way I would teach it... He is obviously using his eyes, not his nose.  Pup has nice hunt drive though :)

Yes this is area searching for articles. He's got a halfway decent start on tracking as well we are using the HITT method, he just hasn't quiet picked up on using his nose for the area search in articles. Do you think a smaller search area and smaller articles would help?

HI

I'm confused about what you're trying to teach? You said you're also teaching tracking. IPO tracking or
AKC or SAR trailing/tracking? When you say an area article search. Do you mean like for an STP or something else? Is the dog supposed to retrieve that article or just do a formal indication. IF the idea is a formal indication with out "bothering" the article. Then food under the article is NOT the way to go. I'd start with just the article indication on leash before I threw the search component in. If you're doing a ring sport "little wood" exercise then it's more of a retrieve (like  AKC scent discriminattion) then an indication. We need more details on your end goals
