Judy P

by Judy P on 06 March 2012 - 16:03

I don't know how much more my husband and I can handle!  Last year was bad enough dealing with my Step-Mother who spent most of last year in and out of the hospital, nursing homes and foster care home until she passed away in early December.  My father is 82 and it took a huge toll on his health as well.  Finally he is doing much better.  We had hoped this year would be easy, but noy so much.  Jim's brother had a 2 level cervical fusion on Jan 4th - C2/3 and C3/4 - very high in the neck and very risky.  He did well through the surgery but as he is a severe alchololic he went though extreme alchol withdrawal as well as the recovery from surgery.  On Feb 12 we got a call from a cousin to let us know Tim had fallen and was in the hospital.  At that point no one knew his status not even the Dr's were sure.  By the 14th it was certain he was paralized from mid back down.   Since then it has been a nightmare, my husband is driving back and forth from Michigan to Memphis TN and trying to work inbetween trips.  We now have power of attorney and are trying to sort out the mess he has made of his life, we don't know what is going to happen when Tim can leave the Re-Hab facility, don't know if we can save his house and so forth.  To top it off he was transferred to a hospital with a blood clot working it's way to his lungs.  I really want to move to a far far away place, have no phone, email, just my dogs and my husband!

So sorry about this news; boy you have your hands full.  BUT, the brother can only be helped and saved if HE WANTS to be helped and saved;  I mean you can't keep cleaning up his messes for him; he has to want to be helped; and needs to show his appreciation for your helping him and ONLY HE can get himself out of rehab.  I agree a large high mountain top sounds great at times but solves nothing; inner peace maybe, just maybe.  Hug your dogs,  great day,  Nan

Yes, I hear you loud & clear! You certainly have your plate full! Carl & I are preparing to take in my Mom, & have some other issues with family members.....I'd like to run away, too.
Maybe we should all go volunteer at Steph's GSD rescue high in the mountains of Montana. She could rename it Steph's Home for Wayward Girls & their GSDs!
I'll work hard with the dogs, if we can have a Girl's Happy Hour each evening!

Yep, that sounds like something I would definitely be interested in;  long as I can have my dog(s).I won't be any trouble, I can even cook.  Nan
