I had a wonderful litter on January 1st 2009. I had 12 pups. 7 girls and 5 boys. I sold them at 7 weeks. They were all equal in size and weight, between the smallest and heaviest there was only 200gms weight difference.

Most of these puppies look great at 5 months. Some didnt. When I analysed the situation, I would blame it on the new owners. Some really dont know how to care for puppies. Even if you call them up everyday and explain they dont. they blame the breeder.

From 12 pups, 10 looks equally good. 2 didnt grow up as the others did. They weren't the last 2. They were in the middle batch. How do we explain to customers that its there fault from diet to vitamin requirements.

Just like kids they do not come with directions, owners do the best they can. But it is up to others if they see a problem to step in and guide the best they can. Did the two dog's vets say they were failure to thrive ?

The vets didnt say anything, thank god. Most vets would blame the breeder even if they gave wrong advise on nutrition. Those customers were guided more than you can think.
Its normal for some puppies to be small made but ppls should think practically example, feed the pups. I had 1 customers family who fed only 2 meals to a 3 month old puppy because she poops. This is in sane as this is the same theory that they used on there 75 year old blind grandmother, because she goes to the toilet feed less.
They also used to tie the puppy in the kitchen. From what I know, kenneling, even if small is ok comparing to tying. Tying and collars makes small necks.
