I'm trying to find information on a GSD with a tattoo on the inside of her back right thigh. It's hard to read but I think it says CPR 01034. The letters are above the numbers. Underneath the numbers I believe there is some kind of symbol. Does anyone recognize this scheme or know anywhere else I should look for help? Thanks.

the symbol below the numbers may be a state abbreviation - supposedly if you tattoo your state on the permanent tattoo, stealing a dog goes from misdemeaner to felony. At least I was told that when I did a thigh tatoo on my dog - her tattoo was my SS# and VA underneath. Unfortunately with thigh tattooes, any number can be used - could be someone's initials and part of their SS#, or phone #, or zip code - or just random numbers. You could call homeagain or avid and see if they have any dog with that microchip code on record, might get lucky. molly

In Canada and CKC registration kennels are allotted a sequence ie. PVT and then you add on the number of the puppy ie.5 and then each year has a designated letter ie. R So each puppy is tattooed your kennel's sequence then say if it is your 5th puppy born in 2006 then added on would be 5R.The CKC has the records of these and can find out who owns the sequence /puppy etc.I assume the AKC operates the same.Good luck.

I had a dog one time that I got a permanent license tag for and they tattoo'd in that area. May be that. From Pa.
