What is the best comb or brush for the gsd coat? How does it look like? Where can we buy it? Thanks again.

I like a combination of the shedding blade and undercoat rake:-)

I use a combination of undercoat rake, steel comb, and slicker brush(in that order), when I groom my crew. I find that using this combination regularly, I don't need to bring the shedding blade into the picture.

I use an undercoat rake or a Furminator. The Furminator takes out both undercoat and the dead top hairs and seems to improve the dogs color. It might be distributing oils. It can't be used on a wet coat, and you have to have a light touch.

I use a mikki undercoat rake 2-3 times per week and finish off by using a coarse brush which i bought in an equestrian shop. I bought a furminator several months ago - it was expensive and not really worth it, in my opinion.

I like the Furminator too and agree with Phoebe, one has to use it with a gentle hand.

I saw a dog stripped of ALL coat with a furminator once - took off the non-shedding hair as well as the shedding LOL looked like they took scissors to the dogs' coat when they were done - yikes. I like to use a metal comb, with teeth very close together. It gets down to the skin and pulls out all the dead undercoat. A slicker brush won't penetrate my dogs' coats but is good to finish off taking the loose outer coat off. molly
