In the next couple weeks I am taking 2 of my dogs for their hip x-rays. I plan on sending these for their "a" stamp. My question, I requested the form's to send in with the x-rays from GSDCA, Working Dog Association, I have read so many post on here about sending in the original papers for one reason or another and them getting lost, I am paranoid about sending in the original pink papers with the x-rays. Has anyone else here sent in their x-rays thru the GSDCA, Working Dog Association, Inc.? If yes, is this service dependable? Any problems with getting the papers back? Approximately how long does it take to get results back on the x-rays? Thank you for your comments. Orbit58@aol.com

The posts regarding lost paperwork is usually in reference to AKC and original SV paperwork. The x-rays will be forwarded to the SV. The SV will only accept original pedigrees and they are very good about returning them, just takes a while. Always make copies of everything you mail out for your own records. If the dogs are originally from Germany check with the SV (Sabine: akc@schaeferhunde.de) before you send out the papers if they have you as owner of these dogs on record. If you are the owner on record then you can always request a duplicate in case papers get lost. One way to prevent loss is to send papers via registered mail. The AKC can also issue duplicates of original AKC papers in case your dog is American bred and AKC papers get lost. So yes, papers can get lost, but if you can prove your ownership, its not the end of the world.

I agree with D.H about the registered mail part. If you want to be safe what is a few minutes and a couple of bucks just to help ensure less of a headache. I have sent originals to WDA with NO problems. I have always received them back and in a timely manner.

I have not used the G.S.D.C.A.-W.D.A., but I have sent the originals to U.S.A. without any issues. As recommended earlier, make excellent copies and be sure you are the registered owner. Also, send by certified mail-return receipt requested. That way you know when they received the application, and you can prove it. Although I have not dealt with U.S.A. to the extent that I have dealt with the A.K.C., they have yet to lose paperwork; unlike the A.K.C. who has lost it once for me and offered no intelligent explanation as to how they could do this. They certainly cashed my cheque. They did, however "fix" the problem but the dog received a new A.K.C. registration number. Just enough to confuse me in regards to litter records. Bob-O

Also note that the time it takes varies wildly. The SV can get backed up around major shows when it comes time for A-Stamp certification. And most organizations in order to make it cost effective wait until they have a few before sending over.
