Hi, I'm trying to register my dog. His parents aren't listed, but his grandparents are. When I enter his parents, it comes up with his grandparent's names. THEN, when I try to submit the info (on his parents) it says, "Sorry, no dogs found in database" (but I know they are there. (My dog is descended from Viernheimi Fax - among others, and I know he's on the database). What am I doing wrong??? Any help would be appreciated!

I've had the same issue come up several times before. What has worked for me in the past is to enter a partial name and let the site come up with a list to choose from... usually, the dog I'm looking for is in the list, even if they won't come up when I type the full name.

To register your dog in the database, go ahead and start with his information. When prompted to register his sire, "no information about the sire", and then for his dam type "no information about the dam". Don't use the quotation marks-I am just using them to separate the string. Go ahead and complete all of the information about your dog. Then, click the link to look at his pedigree. It should show "no information about the sire" and "no information about the dam" for all of his ancestors. If you have found his parents in the pedigree database, you can click "update pedigree" and then search for them. However, if they are not in the database, you need to register each of them and then update their pedigrees, and finally your dog's pedigree. If you need any more assistance, please e-mail me. Bob-O

I must say don't be embarrassed. I faced the same issue long ago. After many, many tries, I finally had a moment of mild intelligence (or last-option desperation) and typed "no information about the sire", and similar information for the dam. When I finally realized that I was dealing with true database protocol, I was able to figure it out. Bob-O

Bob, I've tried repeatedly and keep having a problem. I have three dogs that are IN the database, but when I try to put them in as sire/dam ...... I get an alphabetical list and they are not on it. I've tried pieces of their names; all kinds of tricks. It's making me crazy. The starred dogs are the ones that it will not recognise. *** Sonnie Von Carlson’s Babe http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/476352.html (Dam of Brandi Bo’s Little Darlin’) http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/476337.html ***Hall’s Go Van Go http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/476296.html (sire of Pineywoods Flyin’ High Jak-Mar) http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/476311.html ***Kaiser Von Haus http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/476341.html (Sire of Jezebel of the Ball Von Burn) http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/476419.html If you have any tricks I haven't tried, I'd sure appreciate it. Right now the sire of Pineywoods Flyin' High is WRONG! I mouse clicked when I shouldn't have and turned a mess into a bigger mess!

Okie Amazon, while this database usually operates as it should, there could have been a problem retrieving data due to its traffic load or maintenance of the server or software. Since you can find these "missing" dogs, the only thing that I can suggest is using the space bar to make a space before you type the name, just in case someone accidentally did that when they entered the information. Most database programmes will not accept any space before the first alpha-numeric entry; but who knows? Past that, the only suggestion that I can make is when you find these "missing" dogs, copy and paste their names exactly as shown onto the blank page of a word processor, such as MSWord, or Windows Notepad, then use this as a reference to link the dogs. That may help. Sometimes you will see a dog registered with some sort of title or award as part of his name, such as AmSel Ch. ROM Cujo von Biscuitbiter, instead of Cujo von Biscuitbiter. We are not supposed to do that, but it does happen. Hence, my suggestion for copying the name as found. Good Luck, and let me know if any of this works. Bob-O
