Folks,

I was wondering if anyone had any time-saving tips on finding hotels that allow GSDs.  Ben and I are travelling more and more often now to go to seminars and such, and it's always a pain to find a cheap hotel that allows us to bring our dogs into the room at night.  Yeah yeah yeah... they're spoiled and runied for the sport forever cuz we baby them.  Whatever.

Many hotels that advertise "pet friendly" actually accomodate only small dogs or cats.  Just wondering if someone might know of a web site to search that could filter out the "pet friendly" hotels that would not accept large dogs.

Thanks!
Yvette

When I go places with my breeder she always picks Red Roof and we've always had multiple GSDs.

Here is a link and usually we call the hotel as all the chains are sometimes different.

As I am sure you know...
I personally ask for one with a door directly outside so you can back right up to the door if possible.

You can also check on travelocity for comments as some of the dog friendlys I would not let my dogs stay in :)
We have found good luck with the suggested hotels from the host clubs and or semiar coordinators.

Good Luck
Carolyn

make sure you check, some have changed the rules. I always try and ask for a room that is on the first floor, without lobby enterance and near parking.
I found one by the Oakland airport, that let me bring 3 rotties and 1 gsd right thru the lobby and if they are behaved you can sit in the lobby at night with them!  I think was a Quality Inn, if someone needs to know I can look it up.
There is also a paperback book that list pet friendly hotels, I think you could find it on amazon, it might be god to have on you when travling.
I was at a Double Tree few weeks back  (Santa Rosa) and they had a 50lb limit, I only saw one dog under 50lbs!

Motel 6 allows pets! I believe they are a nation wide chain. That's where we stay when traveling with our Dog.

Seminars and trials will almost always have a dog friendly host hotel, but I like to travel cheap.  I'm used to backpacking so my needs are simple.  Thanks for the web links.  I'll check it out!

A lot of Econo-Lodges, most Holiday Inns, many Hilton, Sheraton, Best Western properties now take dogs. Longer term "suite" establishments almost all take pets, but often require a one-time deposit, sometimes non-refundable. The hospitality industry has been forced by the economy to reconsider their pet policies if they want to fill up their rooms, especially the higher end places. I don't pay any attention to posted size restrictions at small, family-run inns, just walk in with the dog and let them pet him/her if they want, put them on a down in full sight so they can see the dogs is well-trained. I am rarely turned away. Anthing that doesn't behave perfectly (works in progress) stays in the car or the dog trailer.
