I have a friend who had a male shepherd imported by a kennel in Idaho from Hungary. He didn't know that he was supposed to send copies of all his dogs paperwork to the AKC, instead he sent the originals. I know not very smart. Well this was almost 3yrs. ago and he still hasn't received a registration certificate from the AKC. I guess everyone was telling him that it takes forever to get a foreign dog registered with the AKC, and he thought that it would be coming anytime. He eventually called the AKC and of course they never received any of the paperwork or money orders that he sent them. He doesn't have the receipts of the moneyorders anymore or else he could track them to see if the AKC cashed them and lost the paperwork or what. He would like to breed his dog but he needs to get him registered with the AKC first. He can't get ahold of the people who imported the dog for him because he thinks they moved to England. Is there a way that he can get ahold of the registry in Hungary and get more papers sent to him? Is there anything that he can do to get his dog registered with the AKC? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Mysti

Here is the website for the MNJK, and I believe it has a link to the MEOE also. Someone there probably speaks English. http://www.nemetjuhasz.hu/ Veronica

<<>> He must have sent them to the wrong address. I registered 5 imports with AKC in the past year and have been averaging about 3 to 4 weeks turnaround time for my AKC papers. 3 years gone by and he just now follows up on the registration..... good luck. It'll be tough without copies of anything.

What registry is the dog from? MEOE or MNJK? He can contact either to get the paperwork going. Foreign registration takes a few weeks.

Did he at least make copies of the papers? Or, maybe there are copies with whoever he bought the dog from... that would be smart! Does he know the dogs registered name, registeration number, date of birth, tattoo, etc. ? Without that information he is basically SOL I'm afraid. And besides all the registeration issues - is his dog titled, hip certified, etc. ??? Please for the love of the GSD please try and convince him not to breed the dog just because he likes his dog (or whatever other lame-o reason he has)... not every dog should be bred!! Good luck to him getting the papers- as long as he has copies or the above mentioned info (and proof of ownership) he will be able to get replacement papers from the MNJK or the MEOE. I must add that although your freing committed some serious errors by sending the originals, that the A.K.C. has lost registration paperwork before. I know, because a client who purchased a puppy from me for use as a breeding bitch was not paying attention until she realized that she never received the registration from the A.K.C., and the bitch was bred. She contacted the A.K.C.; who contacted me to verify which puppy she was from the registered litter, then assigned a new registration number for the bitch. In the end, the A.K.C. does sometimes lose paperwork, although I am sure that it is rare. I personally never had issues with them about this matter. Bob-O

My dog was imported from Hungary (I got him at 10 weeks old) it took about 3 months to get his MNJK registration papers. Only copies were needed to be sent to AKC. Upon doing that it only took about 8 weeks to receive his AKC registration papers. Even if he had sent the original it would have been smart of him to get a copy for the (just in case) that is unfortunate. I too would contact MNJK for info on how to go about it. Good Luck Kim

Whoever imported the dog should have taken care of the paperwork. We have never had to wait to get papers from MNJK, even the change of the Besch was only 3 weeks, including regular post to the US. AKC was only 2-3 weeks as well.
