I would like to get information about the shutzdienst performed in sieger show. I have seen cassettes of sieger show. Where I have seen dogs biting the sleeve and on command'aus' releasing it. Also dog comes running from a distance and then bites the sleeve. The person wearing the sleeve mimicks as if he is bitting the dog and again on aus command dog releases the sleeve. I have seen some dogs releasing on command and some dogs keep on biting even after aus command. Do dog loose points because of this? Are these points considered at the time of declaring final VA status? What is the purpose of carrying out this test at the time of show? I mean it can be done earlier also. As it is all the dogs in working class have passed Sch title. What is it that judge look for in this test? I read sometime certain dog has failed the biting work what does it mean? What is the purpose of 2 type of test where once handler comes out from a hide and in other dog come charging at the handler. What does it prove in respect of the dog? Do every dog in working class has to go through this? I mean all the dogs 150 odd entries.

Congratulations for your interest in the working tests, it keeps the German Shepherd in the right way! An auxiliar of the man. All those rules were made as a quiz to those dogs and handlers, if they can perform they are more likely to be able to work! Captain Max Von Stefanitz always said "There is no good dog with out work ability!"

Hi Sumo! Every dog in the working class has to be either SchH or IPO titled, that is correct. That is normally done in a club that is known by both dog and handler. But being able to a good job at the Siegershow in front of thousands of spectators is a different matter! Breeders and GSD lovers come from all over the globe, pilger to Germany to see what dogs can be used to better the breed in issues of nerves and drive. After all, a German Shepherd is a working dog! I don't yet know what it is like having to handle a dog in the working class at the Siegershow, but when I see how many people are looking at how the dogs work, I get weak knees just thinking about it!!!! Sorry, but I still don't think the "performance test" at a sieger show is an accurate way to determine working ability.

I agree that it's not accurate, but it's the only possibility for the most of us to see what our top producers bring! Sometimes they work well, sometimes not so well. Just like in real life! I've been to the last four German sieger shows and have seen both good and bad biting. But as I said, I wouldn't want to stand in front of thousands of people who are all waiting to see something go wrong.

deeswolf -- you have a point -- and the inference in the topic .. of course -- if a dog has a Sch 3 -- and that is what you need for VA-1 --what a hoot -- then why on earth would a dog fail the bite and courage test -- to me it is just a show/demo -- and as for the courage test -- compared to other sports -- doesn't prove a damn thing about a dog's nerves -- why do you think the person wearing the sleeve is called a helper ?? in ring sport -- the decoy[helper has a score card too and if defeated by the dopg in aspects the decoy [helper actually loses point too !! they get evaluated --in Sch a good helper can make a weak dog look good and a bad helper can make a great dog look bad !@! there is very low stress for a GSD to bite a sleeve in Sch !! check out NVBK.be and read the rules and requirements -- now as far a seiger show filled with people -- lord i do my bitework on city streets / at supermarkets with buses , backhoes/bulldozers / traffic and crowds of people around .. and that is with my puppies !! what a laugh to think a dog has great aspirations to perform becuase ot is a stadium .. the seiger show and schutzhund bit just makes me laough -- come on folks .. let's be truthful -- which i do my best in life to be --- the show is more for ego's money and full of politics -- lord -- there are a great multitude of vewry very fine outstanding GSD in the world and many countries in euroupe --THE WORST FATE OF THE GSD is that it has now become a SHOW DOG -- what about foremost companion , protedtor . herder etc. --- the l;ast thing this GSD breed needed was to become a fifi pretty looking glamor doll -- for the record i own show and working lines -and o.. my working line is a V-rated dog -- that's ok -- more than great enough for me
