 i have 2 male german shepherd. one is a 3 year old male and the other is a 5 year old female and both are directly from Sch3 parents and from different breeders. they are nice as hell dogs that dont bark or show any sign of protecting my property/family. i have a fenced front yard and when people walk by or bang on the fence, they don't even bark or show any interest!!! what the hell happened to these dogs!!!

i believe that the Sch3 so called protection training is nothing but a wanna-be protection bluff to make these dogs (GSP) look like they are useful in some ways other than herding sheeps/cattles. what kind of protection dog bites a sleeve and ignore the attacker once the attacker let go of he sleeve? in a real situation, the attacker can just let go of the sleeve/jacket hes wearing and run away or attack the dogs owner while the dog is happily ever after munching on the "dangerous" sleeve.

i have come to a conclusion that the reason these german shepherd have no instinct to protect anymore is becuase through countless generation of breedings, people weed out the ones with agression or protectivesness attitude and kept/breed the friendly one so they can be walk around in the show ring without any problems.

If you want real dogs, get the east german working dogs. not the pretty show sch1,2,3 wanna-be protection german shepherd.

PS
the real definition of Schtzund.

Sch1 = Friendly
Sch2 = Friendlier
Sch3 = Friendliest

Sounds like you have two dogs with good nerves. Too bad that you're not happy with that.

First of all, PP and SchH are not the same thing. Some dogs never trained in civil work never show a civil side until that switch is flipped, and the turn into beasts. Some do without any training. I've handled a fair share of "show" GSDs in PPD work (NOT SchH!) and I have handled some really mean SOB's.

And you do realize that those extra tough east german dogs have to be "friendly" enough to "walk around a show ring" in order to get their KKL, right?

Are your dogs soft? Maybe. I don't know them. Are you, in spite of your clearly vast knowledge, misreading them? Possibly. Or maybe, your dogs know that you think they are crappy dogs and quite frankly don't care if someone comes and takes your stuff.

I think it's weird that one of his male GSPs is a female. He should be a lot more worried about THAT.

"i have 2 male german shepherd. one is a 3 year old male and the other is a 5 year old female and both are directly from Sch3 parents and from different breeders. "

So... what exactly do you have there, 2 males or a male and a female?Or, one of them is Ru Paul of German Shepherds?

by Mrk on 25 May 2010 - 06:05

Adi Ibrahimbovic - "i have 2 male german shepherd.." is a typo. correction should be " i have 2 german shepherd"

KCzaja - you are absolutely right. my dogs and every Sch dogs out there believe that they are crappy and dont care if any strangers invade takes its owner stuff.....all they care for are sleeves.

VomMariscal - when those 2 sheep dogs you have there grow up they exhibit the same " I love you, you love me" attitude towards everyone, you will remember this thread.

i have a female who looks very friendly and loving to all the people we meet but i reckon if someone tried it on she would be there in a flash.must admit she does bark and is very on her toes indoors when people first come in and only settles back into friend mode after they,ve been there a while.her mother was assessed unknown to me by a policeman who came to buy one of her pups as a working parks police dog.he told me that my animals displayed the characteristics he was looking for.......barked aggressively when he arrived unaccounced,very wary of him until he been there a few minutes,they  barked when he came into my home and only settled when they had had a good sniff etc.he watched who the dam reacted to her pup and how the pup reacted to his subtle tests.i was in fact quite surprised by his comments as i too assumed mine were too friendly,but no he said they had wot he recognise as the true temp.of a gsd.yu dont really know till yu,re in that situ.i bet yu,d be very surprised by your animals too.Carole.

dont blame the Sch.h. qualification - blame the owner for being so insensitive that he gripes on here rather than looking at improving his dogs sensitivity to the issies that he requires.   You should be proud of your dogs, not slate their qualifications for your own obvious misgivings.   To  Mrk - come try to bang on my fence if my Sch.h.1 dog is out and about, even better raise your arm to me, and that is NOTHING to do with his Sch.h. qualification, it is to do with his balance in life, if you do none of those things he would let you walk by - why on earth would you want your dogs to protect you against people walking by your fence ???   Thats not a balanced clear headed dog - thats a nuisance barker.   Mo.
