I just read the post about "over breeding" and I am just curious to about how many litters can a female produce before calling it quits. Is there a limit? Or is it more as per the individual health of the female?

I would have to say it's an individual thing based on many factors.

I feel that breeding a female at any time after 20 months and then 1 litter per year until 6 years of age. You will get 4-5 litters from this female. I retire my girls at 5 or 6yrs old. I feel this is more than enough offspring from one dog.JMO. Kari

I would have to agree with vomveiderheiss about 5-6. I have found many people will do a back to back one time on the female. Also it depends on if the female, is she a good mother? in good health? Is she passing on good traits? Just because she can bred doesn't always man they should.
