Well, with regards to determining working ability it is desirable to see BSP and WUSV participants in the pedigree, which your boy does have. They are annual competitions for the best of the best working dogs. And to get a V score or top placement at one of these competitions is considered the cream of the crop. Dogs that have proven their working abilities at the highest level of competition. IMO there's no question his pedigree suggests he can do well in SchH, but it all depends on the training. Join a local club with trainers EXPERIENCED in titling dogs in the sport. And knowledgeable in nurturing the drives of a pup, you should NOT be doing too much OB with him at his age, if you do any it should be purely motivational. I know you were also not sure what DDR meant, here's a thread on the topic: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/bulletins_read/33912.html#33917 Good luck, Melanie

I'd also read through leerburg's website, it has a wealth of information on Schutzhund training. He also has a bunch of DVD's on raising and training puppies. http://www.leerburg.com/ Take care, Melanie

If you're going to learn from videos, there are better sources of videos. Leerburg vids are good for newbies that know next to nothing, but for trainers with a bit of experience they are boring and don't contain enough information. The best thing you can do is find a good club and get out there and get some experience.

He is a newbie that is why I suggested them. Yes there are better sources of video's, but many go over the head of newbies. Yes, it is best to join a club, but do your homework as well.
