I am confused here - this pup was not imported from the breeding kennel in Germany - vom Hainpark???????? Why does he carry their kennel name???? His parents are not titled????? I just assumed that the person inputting the dogs ommitted their titles here! As people say above - the best way to be sure you are getting a working prospect is to buy one whose parents are proven in the work, and in producing if possible. Yes, the pedigree is nice, but that is only the beginning of the journey to titles. And he is a puppy, don't burn him out!

Kougar I didn't even realize that, you are right. The pup should carry the name vom Spangler haus, not Hainpark as his father. The dog should have the kennel name where he was bred, not where his father was bred. Mastertekh did you name him yourself? Obviously you werent aware at the time but thats a big a no-no. I don't think you can do anything about it now, just so you know for next time.

AKC DOES allow name changes!!!!!!!!!! Get the forms, get the necessary signatures and change it from "vom Hainpark" to "von Spangler Haus" - That is the proper name style - and if you want to trial this boy, and you go under an SV judge, it will be considered to be tremendously rude and discourteous [to put it mildly!!!] to have the Hainpark kennel name on him....this happens when people register pups and the breeder does not understand the proper protocal to guide the buyer! It IS changeable!!!!!!!!!

Well thats good to know, I wasn't sure the AKC would change it. Yes like Kougar said, do it asap, especially if you are going to trial him.

Yes, its not just a name you can carry on, its a mark of origin. Your breeder should have advised you how to go about naming him. It was an honest mistake, just make it right.

If I am not mistaken, I remember reading on the original AKC registration application, that once a name is approved and given to a dog, it can never be changed.

by Kougar on 15 May 2006 - 15:05

No - it can be if you do appropriate paperwork - breeder sign off if he named dog...I actually spoke to them regarding name changes and am ongoing a process petition to get one of mine changed - they also allow the addition of the owners name if requested to a prevously registered dog.

akc says it can be changed for a fee

by Kougar on 18 May 2006 - 14:05

Good that you confirmed it, so get it changed to the breeders kennel name and you are much more credible when you trial your dog!!!!
