Dawn G. Bonome

I have a 10 week old pup and he is teething and his teeth are like needles. I have not owned a pup in 8yrs. What I have been doing is giving a frozen wash rag for teething, and when he starts to bite my hand, give him a chew toy. Any other suggestions? Dawn

I freeze carrots and let them have them to chew on. Good nutrional value and a cheap chewy. Kari

We just went through this with our latest puppy. We always had a Kong toy or some other similar toy at hand to substitute our fingers/hand for. Thank goodness she is now getting her grown-up teeth.

I use an old sock stuffed with newspapper. It makes a great tug toy and is a wonderful substitute for your hand LOL. And it is cheap to boot. Only draw back is teaching them that your brand new pair of socks in the laundry is not fair game. I also give them plenty of chew toys. Will have to try the frozen carrot idea as I have 2 litters due in May.

If redirecting to a toy stops working and your pup insists on biting YOU I often tell people to abruptly stop the fun, and take the toys for a minute. When you do this, turn away from him with your back to him. No eye contact or talking to him. Then when he stops and is calm, then go back to the game. It will not take very many times of this for him to get the idea of keeping his teeth on the toys and not on you!!

LOL. How about any firm to hard rubber toy made for dogs to chew on. We do use various kinds. ;-)
