I recently purchased two adult dogs whos owner never transfered the SV papers into her name. I now have the dogs and know I need to be the legal owner with the SV before I can get AKC registration. I cannot read any german and have no idea how to go about it, any info would be much appriciated! Thank you!

Send an e-mail to Sabine Lieb at the SV. She speaks English and is very good at getting all of this done. Basically you need a list, with adresses of everyone who has owned the dog since the last owner shown on the pink papers. A bill of sale that shows the dog passing to you must go with all of this plus the original pedigree. You will then be listed with the SV and shown to be the owner of the dog. You need to request a Bescheinigung. The AKC requires the original to be sent with the application. Send your request with your pink papers and bill of sale to Verein fur Deutsche Schaferhunde (SV)e.V. Attn. Sabine Leib Steinerne Furt 71-71 a 86167 Augsburg Germany e-mail her at www.schaeferhunde.de Lorri

Correction on the above: "The AKC requires the original to be sent with the application". Not true, you can send a copy. I would not send the original of ANYTHING to the AKC. They are not good with paperwork always. They accept copies of everything, including the Bescheinigung. To get the SV registration in your name, you need to have the original SV "pink papers". Make sure the transfer of ownership is signed over to you (and dated) on the back of the page, along with the prior owner's correct contact information. Send this to Sabine Leib, who will then send you the Bescheinigung in your name I believe. You can contact Sabine directly via email and ask her for specifics at: akc@schaeferhunde.de She speaks and writes English fluently, so you should have no problems. Hope this helps!

Do not send originals to AKC only copies to Foreign Registration Department at the AKC. also if the previous owner on papers was not German you will have problems. I purchased a German born dog with pink papers from a 2nd owner who lives in Serbia and had to transer the ownership of the dog back to someone who was a citizen of Germany in order to get Bescheingung and register the dog with American Kennel Club

Dittos on not sending the original documentation. Also as a strategy, it might be worth while to have the owner you bought the dogs from to go ahead and register the dogs in their name(they incur all nominal costs/expenses and whatever headaches that arise-they should have done this ANYWAY) and THEN just have them transfer AKC ownership to you, when all is done. Good luck! Stephen
