Hello. I will be getting my first female GSD puppy shortly. She will be spayed (although I am not certain at what age) and I am wondering whether this changes a coat for a female at all. If so, please explain. Thanks for your replies....

If anything, it would be better for the coat because you would not have the typical "blowing" of the coat before heat cycles, she would have the seasonal shedding still though, should stay typical of a males coat.

Most spayed bitches will have a fuller, thicker coat than they would have had if not spayed.

kmaot, A close friend of mine has a grand daughter of Rapi Supra and drand daughter of Dux della Valcuvia and Inka vom Zellwaldrand.. She is spayed and her coat is awesome! She sheds but not as much... you will never escape the shedding.

One more intereting comments about spaying bitches and the result it has on the coat. Many Afghan breeders hate to see their bitches spayed (or their males neutered) as those dogs will lose their "saddles" and it will be replaced with a fuzzy undercoat. That seems to me to be a pretty weak reason to not neutered a pet LOL.
