In a few days time I am going to Germany. I am planning to buy a dog from Germany. How should I go about it? Shall I buy a titled dog or a puppy? Budget is flexible. From where should I buy a dog a reputed breeder or from anybody who has a nice dog? Does big breeder like Bad-boll,Arlett, Batu, etc entertain stranger people like me? What papers should I look for? Suppose if I buy a adult male or female what is guarantee that he or she will be in producing condition and there is no problem with their producing ability. Please help me about this Thank you

Have you at least made appointments? Looks to me as if you did not complete your homework (no offence). I'm afraid you are not familiar with the German culture. Just stepping in, out of the blue, might not be welcomed. Have you checked the breeders list (www.schaeferhunde.de) in the area where you will be travelling? Don't take this wrong, but I would consult somebody like Terry who is well introduced in the scene. He will know where he can take you.

You are about to get the screwing of your life. Be SURE to take some Vaseline with you on this trip! I would suggest you get someone to help you with this endeauvor BEFORE you strole up and put your money down on the table. If you don't even know what you want, why don't you try a stateside breeder, buy a puppy and raise it to 2 years old while learning about the breed and the process of importing, training, care, ect. Then go over to Germany and make your purchase when you are more knowledgeable. You are going to get plenty volunteers on this one, to "help you out". Stephen

" You are about to get the screwing of your life. Be SURE to take some Vaseline with you on this trip! " I totally agree with the above statement 200% no doubt about it. I would like to add little bit more to it, I would also recommend to have some other remedy along with Vaseline that would give some more comfort. Dont' ever do this to your life you will remember this for long long time buddy. Take Care

Hi Sumo, first of all, good deal that you seem to start breeding. ( At least that is what i was reading out of your post ) Not so good seems the fact that you do not really know what you are looking for.... I would suggest that you figure out first what line you are looking into. Once you made up your mind, think about what you expect from the dog you want to buy. Now you have to make the biggest decision.....pay a lot of money and buy a grown dog, titled, breedsurveyed, Körung, perhaps a showresult etc. Possibly,if u opt for a female, get one that has allready whelped and maybe u can see some offspring, this way u know that she produces and what she produces. Or u go with a puppy, this way u can bond more with your dog, raise it by yourself and its going to be less $$$ ! BUT......if u buy the pup here in Germany, most breeders will not give you a written garanty. So, most important is that u figure out what u are looking for. And still, i say it again, and i will stick to it : Not every breeder trys to sell crab......i do not believe that you will get screwed if u are up to make a informed decision. And NO you will not need to take vaseline !! Sounds like some of u think every breeder here in Germany waits at the airport to milk you guys....come on, Jantie, whatever the outcome of your courtdate will be, it still does not mean that there are just "unethical" breeder in Germany. Sumo, if u wish further assistence, feel free to contact me. Kind Regards Ulli Dresbach www.vom-sankt-martiner-tal.de OH, by the way....i put down my REAL name and HP, not to promote the selling of my pups, but to show that there are peopel out here that dont hide !

k9chess, I agree with you; why not buy in the States where there are good quality dogs?; the problem is not too many peopel in america have the time to get really devoted to spend the time in training and put the titles in their dogs... that's where learning and knowledge comes from; from titling and trialing, not buying titled import dogs and putting some kennel together with some pseudo german names; how many dogs do you have chess? how many of them are titled imports... how many of your dogs have you trialed and titled yourself? i wouldn't come to someone who puts breedings together with no knowledge whatsoever; sorry if i sound offensive; those are just my thoughts...

I agree with some of what has been said in the replys above. However I do not think the average German is looking to screw you over. In my experience there is only one price for a dog not one for Germans and one for others.I have checked this out by asking German freinds to enquire about prices before I contact the breeder. Yes it is true that the reputation of Americans is that they will pay more for a dog. The idea that only rubbish dogs are sold to the US is rubbish. I know of quite a few really good dogs being sold to the US for reasonable money. At the WUSV this year the American team had a good showing, ask your self where they got the dogs from.

Hi Sandra, sorry to hear that u also had bad expirience with breeders here in Germany. But, as u stated correctly, u also dealt with good & honest peopel. I used to live in Kansas City ,KS for 4 years. Driving an 18 wheeler for 3,5 years i have been to all states (incl. Hawai....duh, not with my truck !!),only state missing is Alaska. Guess what, found out the exact thing u did.....there are good peopel and there are bad peopel out there ! I¿ve been travelling a lot in my life, it was always the same. I agree with you in the matter that there are quality puppys in the US. It just depends on what u are looking for, if u look for a certain line u might just not find it in your country. What i disagree with is the statement of yours :...have started selling the worst of the worst at a high price..... Sandra, no offence, but u are blaming litterly hundrets of honest, trustworthy breeders to sell S***!!! Kind Regards Ulli Dresbach
