Just wondering if anyone else has ever had a bitch bleed while pregnant. My bitch was surgial implanted on march 12th and about 10 days later started bleeding and hasn't really ever stopped. So here we are day 39 and this is still happening. Some times it seems realy heavy but usally it is light spotting here and there. And yes she is being seen by a reproduction specialist and we are awaiting the culture to return back. She had an ultrasound done on the 12th of april and we saw at least 8 pups. The vet said all the pups looked well formed and well placed in the uterus. But she and I are both stumped at what could be causing her to bleed. She goes back in to the Vet tomorrow and we hope to have the results back. she is also planning on doing a progestrone test to see where her levels are and another ultrasound to check on the pups.

5 years ago one of my bitches, Krizzie, started bleeding between the fourth and fifth week of pregnancy. She was give a course of antibiotics and I was told to ring in 5 days. She was still bleeding when I rang and the vets suggested I take her in to terminate the pregnancy. I told the vet that I would take her in but in my opinion this pregnancy was developing normally. On examining Krizzie she agreed but gave her another course of antibiotics. I was told that if she appeared unwell at anytime that I was to to take her in immediately, as there could be serious complications, but she was fine. The bleeding stopped at around 7 weeks. Krizzie gave birth to 8 healthy boys and one bitch in this her second and last litter. Hope it helps!

What did the vet who did the surgical implantation say? That would be my first call.

Thanks , yes she was given a round of antibiotics when this first happened. They thought then it was residual blood left over from the surgery due to it being so dark. but  now the blood has gotten really bright red. She is eating well and in good spirits so i don't feel the pregnancy is in danger and neither does the vet. so ready for tomorrow to come so i can find out what is going on.

that is the vet who is doing everything is the vet that did the surgical implantation. she is a reproduction specialist.

If the repro specialist thinks it's OK, then that's the person to listen to. Good luck on having a healthy and wonderful litter! Who are the parents?
