Very interested in hearing who everyone feels are the top studs as far as showline GSDs are concerned...I am very particular when it comes to my GSDs and even more particular of their pedigrees...Not interested in anything American, and of course health and quality are very important...Looking at Blk/red showline males for a future breeding sometime down the road and am trying to compile a list of some of the best males out there for consideration...Like a black face/mask very much...

I am not a breeder, I am an owner (Cora von haus Winheim) our breeder has offered me the opportunity to provide her with some names for her consideration to be bred to one of her females so that I might get the male I've wanted...Knowing there is a wealth of knowledge out here I'm asking you all for some suggestiuons...Not looking for working GSDs, know my showlines and that's what we're looking for...Know enough to not breed and leave that part to those that do know...

Any help from those of you who are in the "know"...???Spent over a year looking for my female before I bought her so I am particular and know what I want...Our breeder has final say over any suggestions i might make, she is the expert after all...

  Thanks,

  Rob

Rob,

Can you tell us what you are looking for in working ability? Herding, Schutzhund,...etc? What are your females weaknesses that you are hoping to improve?
This will be very helpful in picking a good stud for her.
Where are you located, and are you willing to ship, or do you want something local to you?

i would also be very intrested in finding a good  show line stud,
i would be looking for good worker on the field and a pretty calm guy off the field.
very good conformation , good color too.

This is a good opportunity to try to evaluate your dogs from an impartial standpoint which is not always an easy thing to do, but very necessary in choosing a suitable stud. We have several very nice males here in the states, but they bring very different things to the table for breeding. For example, if I have a dog that has a significant amount of defense drive, I will look for a male that is more prey driven because I prefer that characteristic for Schutzhund. If my female has a short croup or is a bit flat in the withers, then I am going to look for a high prey drive male that has improved wither and croup in previous breedings. Conversely, I want any flaws that the male happens to have, to be strong points in my female. No dog is perfect, the point here is to try to find the best potential match for your particular dog. Do research on suggested males and what they have produced in the past, and with what lines, and the rest is up to nature. Give as many details as possible about what you arer looking for, I think that is why you are not getting suggestions yet. Theresa

I am not the breeder, I am an "owner"...Breeder has final say over who she uses and I don't want to cause problems by going into too much detail here...Breeder asked me for suggestions and then has the right to choose who "covers" who...I know who I like, but again, not a breeder, a GSD lover and owner looking for a male puppy out of what I would consider maybe the top 10 GSDs in the world...Only want "world class" bred GSDs...
Not breeding, have no plans too, might try Shutzhund or something...???Want the possibility to be there regardless...Pedigree and looks are what's important to me as an "owner", I leave the breeding details to the breeder...
Probably shouldn't have even asked the question as I know enough about GSDs to know it should have stayed between myself and the breeder I use...Somethings are sensative enough, do not wish to start any problems here let alone for the person I use as my breeder...Who is a fine honest person who deals with world class GSDs...Thought I could offer some help, guess I was wrong...
Thanks for your input though, will let "sleeping dogs" lie...

Rob,

I'm new to all this, also don't breed and am happy with my breeder of choice. But I am still very interested in the question you asked.

It is a very valid subject for discussion on a GSD board and there are a lot of suggestions in the archives. Some dogs that I see mentioned often are Ulko, Nash Bastille, Ork , Jimmy Arminius. These are just a few but are all noted for good bite work in a S/L dog.

My training partner is a retired SV judge and dogs he likes include Falco Moorbeck, and an Ando son in Calif., (can't remember the name,  Several others that slip my mind at the moment.

Rob, you are in an enviable position, and I hope your dogs breeder chooses wisely. Personaly, if it were practical, I would choose either the stunning Zamp, or a Von Arlett dog. Zamp appears to be passing on to his progeny all of his qualities,  he has some stunning babies. And Von Arlett kennels, a wealth of knowledge, a lifetime of breeding, and consistently produces quality dogs.  I am no expert, but I would say take your time, talk to people in the know, and go have a look at some shows to give you an idea of what the winning dogs are producing. Sometimes a breeding which looks first class on paper, doesnt produce the anticipated quality.
Good luck, and I hope your pup is everything you wish for.

Our breeder has offered me the opportunity of getting a puppy from Falco Moorbeck at one time but i passed because I wasn't thrilled with the female of her choosing...Have had my heart set on a mating with Yash von der Bastille but now our breeder doesn't feel he is the right choice for the female she wants to use...Personally I love Yash and don't agree with what's "not happening"...It is not my intention to make anybody look or sound bad, just seems the more I know, the more questions I have...I know who the "foundation" GSD studs were, know who the top GSDs are in the world...Easy to see the results of the Seiger/s shows from around the world...Then there is this site with a wealth of information...

I asked (as I have been has asked by our breeder) for some thoughts/opinions on what the people here, whom i respect for their knowledge...) for some of what I would like to think are "educated opinions...I realize it was too general a question to really be answered but hoped I'd get a list of names I might then check out for myself before I gave them to my breeder for consideration...G-d knows I've looked at 1000's of pedigrees, its something I enjoy doing...I know more than most but not as much as some...

As an owner of what I think is a gorgeous and very well bred GSD, pedigrees have become something/s I like to study, and have become somewhat familair with...Like you said; on paper things look one way, reality is almost always another...Which is why I always defer to our breeder and or some of the more "respected" opinions found within this site...Again, I am not a breeder, I am an owner looking for another GSD pup with a world class pedigree...Not to use to breed but to have as a very well trained companion...Shutzhund, S/R, obedience, whatever direction we go in I want the very best at my side...

Like most people, I have a vison of what I want my next GSD to look like as well as all the other things we all want in our dogs...Right now Yash is my ideal male GSD, that doesn't mean I don't like the looks (Yukon von der Bastille is no slouch either) of a lot of other GSDs out there...I do very much...Love the breed, always have, always will...Began with BYB GSDs and although they were all beautiful animals, there is nothing like a "world class" bred GSD with just about everything correct from hips to eyes to temperment to color...Now that I own the GSD I do I only want the very best i can get...Next step for me is to title a dog and maybe get into Shutzhund or something...???Point is I'm heading in a certain direction with my GSDs and that is better not worse...

Hope this clears things up for those of you who took the time to respond to my question, have nothing but good things to say about the relatioship I have with the breeder I got my last GSD from...

Thanks for the advise and time,

  Rob
