You live in Massachusetts, right? Have you considered searching for a breeder right here in the USA? If you're searching for a nice Black and red puppy with import pedigree then the breeder I suggest is Mittelwest kennels. Please take it into consideration that Germany does NOT guarantee for health/temperament,etc. Fortunatly in the USA theirs such laws that helps buyers whos puppies became hereditary sick (or died) and requires long term treatment. Please read this thread that was posted just recently on this forum at http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/bulletins_read/37948.html Just remember... theirs Great dogs here in the US who produces just as good as the dogs in germany... unfortunatly theses dogs cant be registered with pink papers as they wern't born in germany... If Mittelwest kennels is too expensive for you (They're not cheap) Please contact me so i can refer you to a friend of mine who breeds for the working drives in the showlines.

Those "pink papers". Gotta have the "pink papers". Can't read 'em, don't even know what they are, but we gotta have 'em.

rmgsd, Not all breeders in the USA are making a living off of breeding. If you don't mind where do you import your dogs at and how much you paid for your dogs? Just curious.

brittany, there are a lot of good honest breeders in germany, and they do not charge no 2.500 ect for a puppy i got a female from a v.a1 male and v.a 8 female in germany and did not pay the price that u.s breeders want, there is no puppy worth 2.000 or more ,i all about doing your home work,,,that the problem no one likes to do there home work ,,,if i was looking for a puppy from germany and did not want to do research, then i would check with DOG1 ,i talk to a alot of importers and he seem to be the one i like the most ,i reserch for 2year........

There are good and bad breeders everywhere. The most important thing to do is find a breeder that you are comfortable with and find a dog with lines you are comfortable with. If you are in Mass area maybe you should think about attending the U.S.A Sieger Show in April? It is being held in Connecticut Many of the top kennels from Germany and the United States will be attending this show and you can see the dogs and meet the breeders in person.

Have not typed here in a while. But I must say that you should think more on the dog then the papers. It is not hard to obtain a puppy with pink papers. But if you spend more time explaining your expectations of the dog and also explain your intentions, you will probably get a pup that is closer to what you are looking for. Respectfully, Carl Morgan

Carl morgan is right on!! Let us know what you want to do with the dog and there are well qualified people on this board who will offer you good advise. Personally,If you want a dog that has red/black pigment without ANY compromise on working ability, look up Randy tyson-witmer in Northern california.I would also vouch for her very high ethical standards, based on personal experience. Good luck with your puppy!!

Pink papers are a joke - it only means the dog is born to titled, registered parents, but it really is a scam when breeders put it out there to suck dumb people in. Do your homework - see the owners, the kennels, the dam and sire. Don't buy until you have stood back and really realized your situation, what you want, and what kind of dog fits your life. If you want a dog that will really work, but don't necessarily want a really high defense/prey drive like most working lines have, you might try a registered pup out of a good mix of showline & working line. My female is an awesome surprise - out of Arlett showlines, and the other half is really nice East German lines - Lord v. Gleisdreick & Pascha v Glockeneck. She will lay around & chew her bone, but will hit the glass like a good Shepherd should! And with no training! It took some time, but I found a good dog, and didn't pay the exorbinant prices most Big-Name Breeder's charge.
