<<> That'll never happen. We had a breeder on the West Coast that stands by the breeders ethics that had a Champion stud that was Dysplastic so she used another dog to get his OFA and continued to stud out the Dysplastice dog. Thank god he is dead now, so breeder ethics don't mean zip. Had the dog been KKl with the tattooing etc. there would have been a little more control to avoid this from happening. But as far as AKC G.S. breeders forget it, avoid it like the plague. <> KKl should be the bare minimum for German Shepherd Dogs to be bred. If they cannot at least get a show rating, AD, SchH1(even watered down the way it is), Hip x-rays, and have the proper paperwork then how does breeding a G.S. with good hips and a CGC or TT gonna improve the breed. <> yes for Aussies, Golden retreivers etc. Or even G.S. to build timing, reflex, and keep them physically fit but! Not as a breed suitability test for G.S. <> I totally agree BUT! the breed wardens should be educated enough to a least hold a conversation about German Shepherd, some can't even do that. Uwe

My purpose for consulting with the breed warden was to obtain information on the negatives of breeding a particuilar female and male. As VHD stated this is not an honorary position. The breed warden should be responsible for helping those seeking to improve the breed. Why should a breed warden not know which pairings may produce physical deformities such as missing teeth and small size. Breed wardens should have the eagerness to obtain knowledge in bettering the GSD. I believe a correct response from a breed warden when asked a question, is to answer the question, find the answer or point the person in the right direction. Since I was not satified with the response from the breed warden I asked someone else on this web board. The very knowledgable person I asked was very helpful. Kyle

<<>> Yep Hollywood people. There is a trainer out here that gets SchH1 dogs for $1200.00 to $2500.00 bucks and sells those same dogs as personal protection dogs for $15,000.00 - $35,000.00 and the rich and famous pay it. I have worked with many high end clients that paid as high as $70,000.00 for their "Personal Protection dog". the same dog that wouldn't do anything unless you had a sleeve and a SchH field. But the rich from Beverly Hills to Miami continue to buy them. Uwe

I do not know of ANYPLACE in Germany where you can get a quality dog that is titled, for under Eur 3500, and that is a "friendship" bottom line price. If you buy a EUR 2000 dog, you probably have a "bag of bones" on your hands. Think about it. The dog(puppy)represents a price at 8 weeks(EUR 900-1200 depending on Sire), Training/time to BH, Hip/Elbow x-rays, DNA(Cost for the vet to do them all, cost for SV to document all documents), Then Training/time to SchH1, Training/time for AD(Cost to SV to record it), Training/time to get show rating, Training/time for KKL rating. All gas to training and back home over a 2 year period, All gas to places where shows and examinations are being held, with associated fees. Food and Vet bills have been incurred during this time frame also. The person is entittle to some type of "profit" or "compensation" for bringing this dog to a position of being marketable. EUR 2000?!?!?!?!?!?! for a SchH1? NOT!!!!!! If someones makes you this offer...RUN.....You are about to get screwed!! Stephen

Stephen, I know someone who buys ScH1 dogs for 2000-2500euros pretty often to sell to the Police Depts here....I'm not saying that they are good dogs in any means.....they are "average" dogs in both looks and character. But they do have a ScH1 title on them. And I have bought ScH1 dogs for 3500euros and they have been very nice!...but I also have a very close friend in Germany who will find me a very nice dog! You must ALWAYS be careful when buying a dog from anywhere! I think a very fair price for a ScH1 female of very good quality is starting at 4800euro and there are some to be found. You must have a connection and TAKE YOUR TIME! Robin

Police Department are only concerned with healty dogs that can do the work. Or clearhead dogs that can be trained to do the work. They could care less that it is a VA or V rated dog. That is an exception. Most folk here are into the show aspect ALSO(confirmation, beauty, along with working ability(hopefully) and that was the reason for the opinion I posted.
