I've heard lot's of good things about Ursus von Batu. He is my males grandfather on the dams side. Although obiviously the dogs (mine) personal accomplishments and titles are most important - how big a deal is it that he is so close to a Sieger like Ursus? Would it be considered a "selling" point of it's own? (talking about puppies here...) Thanks, -Calvin

The Ursus Batu is definitely an excellent male, and definately makes a selling point for his offspring. I guess the most important question is; who and what are the dog's parents? Many VA's (and V's & SG's for that matter) never reproduced themselves successfully. I have an Ursus great-grandaughter (mother's side) and she is very correct to the standard. In the end, I put it this way; I have heard nothing bad about the Ursus, and he has made puppies for several years.

Where is Ursus von Batu?

The only thing I've heard that could be considered a negative, is that he throws off pups that are on the high end of the standard and above the standard in size..I don't even know how true that is..so no one beat me up for it...ha ha...

Ursus is in China now a days. He is no more able to produce. He is just a dog counting his days.

Ursus vom Batu was the 2000 Sieger. Obviously, having a Sieger who is the father of your dog can be important. But only to unknowledgable buyers. Puppies from a stud dog are only as good as the click with the mother. You can find plenty of garbage from top dogs who were bred to females that brought nothing to the table or even females that were quite good but the match did not work. All things being equal its better to have a famous dog up front than one whom nobody has heard of. But Ursus just like most Siegers has produced 1000s of puppies. Its not like they are a hard to find commodity. He was at stud for a long time. And, he is considered old blood--since then Yasko his son is considered to have been a better produce and better conformationally than he. There are a lot of first class very famous Yasko sons out there including the 2004 & 2005 Sieger Larus, the VA3 Erasmus, the VA4 Orbit etc etc. So no one in the know is going to going to flip out and say, "Oh whow the dog is an Ursus son" on the other hand, it sure beats having Fido vom Unheardofland as the father.

When was Ursus move to China? He was just moved back to Germany from Italy this past year, I thought. He should be around 10 or so now.
