I am looking for anyone who has bought a protection dog that was a joke - I bought a protection dog about a year ago that it turns out is just totally equipment fixated and would never hurt anything except a full trial sleeve. I would like to hear anyone else out on their bad experiences, as I really feel like I got taken pretty badly. Feel free to email me at ddr_chexmix@yahoo.com

Did the seller indicate he was a protection dog or SchH dog?

Good point GSDfan. There is a difference between a "sport" dog(SchH) and a "protection" dog.

DDR/Chex mix.... Aren't you Tim Helser? Then I would think you would know to have tested the dog before buying him or did you find out after getting the dog shipped to you? Never thought about mixing DDR with Chex cereal. LOL

My first sport dog was like this. She was very crazy for the sleeve, but w/out equipment seemed to be a normal dog. I sold her thinking she would be an excellent detection dog for police, but with a little work she was hitting on the hidden sleeve no problem and working the streets in 2 months. I don't know if the seller sold you the dog assuming that you would train it yourself in personal protection, or if they sold it saying it was already trained for this. I know that my dog exceeded any expectations I had of her, but I also know that's not always the case as every dog is different. I just thought that I'd add in a good experience as from what little info was given, my dog sounded a lot like yours. Jeff

If you bought a trained protection dog you got taken. But, if you bought a schutzund dog, that is exactly what you got. There is definately a difference.Just like SAR training is different from schutzund tracking. You probably have a decent dog, but just not trained for what you intended.
