you said you have a dog linebred on stormfront's brawnson, so what exactly is your question?

by jamie predieri on 15 November 2005 - 15:11

finishing question my friend has 2 bitches ochee z posrtrani straze (excuse spelling) and a dargo ha-ja-da daughter or granddaughter should i find a brawnson bitch or use one of his.i plan on keeping a bitch to start breeding. just looking for some much needed advice

by neuen-polizei on 15 November 2005 - 16:11

My first question would be is your dog titled and hips certified? What about the females? What are you expecting of the pups? I wouldn't think pups from lines known to make strong working dogs would be happy laying on a couch all day. Is your friend ready for what pups are left after you take the one you wanted? Another question is, you have a dog that is already a 2-2 inbreeding on Brawnson, if you add him to the pedigree again, are you ready for the good AND the bad that comes from him? Most find that the pups they have are more like the grand-parents than the parents. I do praise you for asking advice before jumping into the decision of breeding. Jeff

bad like what (deformities or behaviors) i want good blood but not only for working. ive done some reading on paska and brawnson(and offspring) and all seem to be good with kids and good workers.dont know how to train very well'my dog is well behavwed but always ready to play.does the working line sometimes make them not the most ideal pet.my dog is never agressive about anything(food or toys)towards kids but loves knocking them down.i want good pets but i want to be able to sell them to anyone.

Have you done any training with your male? titled him? does he have OFA? ditto on the females. Have you been able to ascertain what qualities of his character are attributable to Brawnson? Have you talked to Mike Diehl and sought his guidance? He trained and competed with Brawnson. Already you have heavy influence from Brawnson, and you should carefully reseach him and what he produces. Linebreeding is a tool to understand what you have and what you can try to produce. Just because there IS linebreeding does not MEAN anything specific in a breeding. Frankly, these are not the bloodlines that are going to be the most sucessful as average pet puppies if you think that is where your pups are going to end up being sold. The market in the US for working dogs is not as large as for companion pups. Most people looking for a puppy want a black and red saddle color as well.

Jamie, 2-2 line breeding is not accepted by the SV! And if you are asking these questions I do not think you should be breeding!!!! There are enough pets out there.

thanks for the info. idont know where i said anything about 2-2 linebreeding i was wondering if more brawnson blood would better or worse for offspring. no i havent talked to mike diehl but have done some reading on brawnson(and offspring).i want more to use the postrani straze blood but thought maybe staying with brawnson was more ideal for genetics. i have not had him titled or had his hips checked(but plan on doing before breeding). he is still young. i was trying to ask before i look for a female to buy or breed with. i have though had alot of people show interest in the sable color and mention wanting one.so maybe thats good. where can i get a break down on linebreeding.i understand it being a tool. how do you learn to use it?

http://www.vegaskennels.com/linebreed.html http://showcase.netins.net/web/royalair/libreeding.htm http://www.leerburg.com/breedqa.htm http://www.nylana.org/RRACI/brackett.htm http://www.geocities.com/learntobreed/linebreeding.html The first will show you a line bred pedigree very clearly. The second is a must before you breed any dog and does have some info on linebreeding as well as should you cull and what to do if the bitch's milk dries up at say three weeks. The rest will explain linebreeding. Keep in mind that everyone will say they want a puppy until it's time to take one home. Then you'll hear "sorry we're having a baby" "we just got new carpet" "we don't have time for a puppy". Then you have the people saying they would love one of your shepherd puppies. It will be an outside dog (can't get mud stains on that nice white carpet) and kept on a chain. Or the person looking for a nice lap dog. From what others have said of your dog's line, you can not sell your pups to someone looking for a lap dog and expect them to still want that dog in six months. Working lines are very high energy dogs. Some of the show lines have had it bred out of them and you may want to look that way if you're looking to sell to pet homes. The people on this site know the breed and the lines and should be able to help you find the right bitch for your dog for the qualities you are looking to give your puppies and your buyers.

Jamie, you didn't say that the dog was inbred 2-2, but TJ and Paska have Brawnson as the father. If you look at your pedigree you will see what I am talking about. If you bred to a Brawnson daughter, you would be making a 3,3-3 linebreeding on him, increasing your chances of the pups being more like Brawnson. It wouldn't be a breeding I'd sell to pet homes.
