There are alot of nice czech dogs out there. But when you buy a dog with no papers, you get what you asked for.

bart, go to www.alpinek9.com, then dogs for sale, scroll down and click on , why some dogs have no pedigree. hope this helps. also, i am a police k9 handler and work a czeck gsd with no papers or a tatoo. thats usually the case with the police k9's in my area unless the department requests a dog with papers and or title.

Bart may I ask how much you paid for them? I have seen several police dogs for sale but only to approved homes because they are considered a dangerous weapon and for no less than $3000. There is a site that trains level 1 to level 5 protection dogs and the prices ranged from $3000 for last choice in a litter (I do not remember if that included level 1 training or if training was extra) to $50,000 for a level 5 dog. The level five gets K-9 training. I can find the site again if anyone wants me to.

BartGSD- what are your intentions for these dogs? No papers means no breeding, No competing, No titleing etc. Unfortunately some people new to the breed (including myself at one point) learn by trial and error. If all you were looking for are pets you got what you paid for. If you wanted anything more, you got screwed. Although the reasons for them not being papered may be explainabe in the future you can be sure of a dogs lineage and source by buying them with papers. Anyone can tell you tall stories about where a dog is from and what they have done, but the dog isn't worth much without proof (ie. papers and documents prooving it). I hope everyones' comments has given you knowledge for the future.

Correction- (sorry I'm used to competing in AKC obedience, where you cannot compete without being registered), you CAN obtain a scorbook for Schutzhund titles without registration (I believe) but the name, sex and DOB must be identified, however I don't think you can get a breed survey and show rating without registration papers.

Hello, here is a big WAKE UP CALL to all of you on this board to learn, In order to compete in any Sch or show venue, your dog must have a legible tattoo. Before you "pay" any money make sure that the dog/puppy is tattooed. It doesn't matter what country the dog is from the definitive here is a tattoo (and now I think a chip may be acceptable) is required!!! And it must be readible two or three years down the training/competition road. FYI

Yes- but the tattoo can be done or redone by a vet/tattooer. It doesn't have to be tattooed from birth. When I take my male in for OFA this is exactly what I am going to do. What's with the attitude?
