Ok, I bought two dogs from a trainer who says that the male that I bought was a German Police dog and the Female I bought was from the Czech Border Patrol Kennel . Is there anyway I could fined this info out . The Dogs I bought was came with no papers they was cheaper this way the trainer said . . Also after I have been on this site I see that dogs over there are all tattooed . the the dogs I bought do not have any tattoos in their ears , ok for my ? Do all German and Czech dogs have a tattoo ? If not why ? If so please tell me then are my dogs not from Germany and Czech ? Thank you Bart

No, not all Czech dogs have a tatoo. Just pupies comming from perants that are breed surveyed and titled can be registred under the FCI and therefore tatooed. For those who don't have a tatoo there can be many different reasons. For instance, parents not registred, or registred but without required titles, breed survey, hip exray etc.

BartGSD, The trainer said that the male that you bought was a German Police dog? Did he told you the police department name to find out if that is true? If he didn't then I think he was blowing smoke up your butt, sorry to say. If he however did then please find out! This includes your female who is supposivly came from a Czech Border Patrol Kennel, which im guessing that the kennel is z Pohranicni Straze? correct? Also why did you buy two dogs that has no paperwork done? Didn't that raise up your suspicious? I'm sure the dogs are good, not trying to say anything negitive about them.. however in my own personal preference... never buy a dog without papers... theirs reasons for it.. maybe an accidental breeding of a littermate.. or any other cause. Their might be a reason why they dont have tattoo's as what czinca posted.

Bart, I hate to say it but something smells a bit fishy. First thing, was the trainer state side or in Germany? Where did you pick up the dogs? I'm going to guess you got them state side,if not then I'm sure you would have been smart enough to notice where the flight the dogs arrived on came from. Why would you want to spend ANY money on dogs with know paper work? unless you got them for resale to sell to a police dept. here that did not require paperwork, pedigree and hips xrayed, which does not happen very much anymore I find it strange you would have 2 dogs imported,no paperwork just for yourself as pets, that also make little sense.A dog to just about any of us,no matter how good it is or how much we pay for it is worth next to nothing minus paperwork.Tattoos should be the least of your concerns right now,I myself would be interrested as to who this trainer is and where he is located. The two dogs you mention should have been rather exspenseive something is not right here, did you not check out anything prior to making this transaction? I'm thinking this guy saw you coming a mile away and is laughing all the way to his bank. Sorry if I seem a bit blunt,it just bothers me the amount of people that get burned and ther is really no reason for it today with the internet and sites like this one. I wish you luck.Keep us informed as to the out come, but I would follow up on this if were you..........

You can buy a GSD from Germany that has no tattoo, that means it was bred without papers. The police in Germany does not require any. Very unlikely though that you picked up a German police dog. Once the dog has gone through testing and training and certification, which is rather extensive and expensive, it usually stays with its handler until it is retired. Since retired police dogs get a state pension in Germany, getting even a retired K9 is still unlikely. Never mind that it is government property that simply cannot be sold on a whim. Departments are searching high and low to find suitable dogs, they are not going to part with one that easily. This dog would have to be at least 5-6 years old for a department not to reassign the dog if the original handler could no longer work the dog. This dog would be certified every year. He may not have registration papers, but he would have his anual certification (police dog test). The handler would have copies, looks like a scorebook, those should come with the dog. At least the copies... Easy to find out it the dogs have been imported. Let the seller show you airwaybills, invoices from the seller overseas, etc. A dog from Germany comes with either a yellow vaccination booklet, or the new blue ones. Those are basic medical records and have to come with the dog because without a valid rabies vaccination and health certificate the dog cannot be shipped to/enter the US. If the dog has no German vaccination records then that is a good indicator that it did not come from there. Same goes for the czech dog, there must be some records from his country of origin that the seller should still have. Of course such records can be lost... what that means I think you can determine yourself. Sounds like a good to be true story. Sorry.

I agree with the above comments but I just wanted to add a note about tattoos. I have a Slovak male who's tattoo is unreadable and almost undetectable and the skin on the inside of his ears are very dark. After trying hard to see it all I can see is a small amount of ink, the numbers are completely unreadable (the tattoo # is on his papers though). My point is I'd just look harder for any signs of ink. If you wouldn't mind, would you share how much you bought the dogs for. If you are interested in finding out more about your Czech dog I would contact Hans from Alpine K9, he is very knoledgeable with those lines. Unfortunately without papers I don't know how much he'd be able to help you but its worth a try www.alpinek9.com.

Care to share where you got this dog from or what state the "trainer" resides in? Perhaps researching that info at first would have saved you some money and anquish (no intent meant). Also was there a 2 for 1 deal (LOL) or did you just ask for 2 dogs? Something is fishy about the 2 dog deal. Or should I say odd....

by BartGSD on 15 November 2005 - 16:11

I do not wish to post the trainers name or state till I give him time to prove that what he told me about the dogs is true . Thank you but its not right to talk bad about other people till you have all the facts . Thanks Bart

by BartGSD on 15 November 2005 - 16:11

by the way I did ask for a male and a female , This is what I wanted it was not a two for one deal .
