I am located in Lake Placid York and looking for a breeder I have found a breeder who is within 5 hours of driving distance of me. (I will be traveling to the breeder will gives me the chance too) The breeder has German Working Line Dogs which are titled and prelimed. They guarantee their pups, both working and pet quality. All the pups are going for the SAME prices $1,500 which is very reasonable to me. I have spoken with this kennel numerous times now, and have had no bad feelings or question about their ethics. This kennel has spent many hours taking to me about their dogs, their puppies, their experience(s), their kennel, their family, etc. Other breeders I have spoken with won't give me much time unless I place a deposit b/c they feel its taking away from their time with people who have place a % down! (Its always a rush, rush, rush with the other guys, which I don't like) I am not sure I am allowed to post the kennel name without getting anybody upset. I am really looking to get some feedback about this kennel before taking a 5 hour drive to them and fork out $1,500.

Sounds like you answered any questions yourself, already. They can not give you a guarantee that your pup will grow up and be "the winner" of anything, or the greatest dog since Rin Tin Tin. So far, they seem to have done everything right by you. What else could you possibly want from them except a guarantee that you can return the puppy if it doesn't pass inspection by your Vet. A one year guarantee against HD is usually standard. If the health of the puppy is good and the attention of the breeders too your concerns/questions is good, then how bad can it be. Look at their dogs, take your new pup to be examined by your Vet and use your common sense. A five hour drive is not that bad. Even if you have to return the puppy.

Why not get right to the point, ask if anyone has info on whatever kennel/breeder it is you are talking about. Anybody can tell you anything you want to here, seems like good people, spend all sorts of time on the phone with you, that is all fine, until you have a problem after receiving the dog/pup. Now is the time to be checking on everything you have been told.Ask for references, call their vet, check with the BBB to see if any complaints have been filed against them.Nothing wrong with checking out prior to buying, makes much more sense if you think about it.

"Anybody can tell you anything you want to here, seems like good people, spend all sorts of time on the phone with you, that is all fine, until you have a problem after receiving the dog/pup." EXACTLY. Its your money, and your future dog. Check them out, a truly good breeder who has nothing to hide won't be offended in the least. I selected a breeder (diff breed though) that sounds exactly like the one you described. Said the right things, spent alot of time talking to me about their bloodlines, what they have produced, references checked, the whole nine yards. And now I am stuck with a pup that they refuse to take back, refuse to honor their very detailed and in-depth guarantee, refuse to refund me on or replace, and one that I cannot sell. Not to say that your breeder isn't as wonderful as he/she sounds, but the point is...make sure you check everything out, and even then you have to hope for the best that it is a good match between you and the dog. And p.s. if you end up going with them and are really happy with your dog, let me know :)

Even if you are only purchasing this pup for a companion, they're parents should be proven. That means titled in some fashion. Good breeders breed to better the breed, not just cause they got 2 pretty dogs! That being said you should ask for things like the parents ofa #'s, and other health certs, ask for the pedigree and do your homework, research the dogs in the lines right here. I promise you a good breeder will share this info freely! Then CHECK IT! I was a victim of a byb 10 yrs ago, beautiful property, said all the right things a NOVICE wants to hear, only when you start to dig deeper is when you seperate the true breeders or the rip off artists. Don't let this happen to you. Good luck your decision and you new pup.

$1500 is nothing to spend on a very good puppy, but it's alot to spend on a puppy that's crap, make sure the guarantee cover what your most worried about, and get the breeders signature on the guarantee, if this pup doens't pass a vet check or at age pass ofa then that guarantee will cover you, and any breeder who don't hold up his end needs to stop breeding!!!

Just find another breeder...if you doubt it, don't do it!! a good breeder will answer any and all ?? without a deposit..if they care for their pups, they also will ask a lot of ?? Go with your gut...
