Hi. Please help? I've been messed about by a few breeders. I want a nice pup from good hipscored parents for a pet.
I've spent the last few months on a waiting list for a pup. The breeder was sketchy answering any questions, sending photo's etc so i cut contact and took myself off her list. Is this common practice? I can't believe it is so hard to get answers of parentage etc and a photo of litter or prospective pup. I couldn't even get an answer which pup would be mine, colour. There were three colours. She asked me what i would like when litter was born. i GAVE HER A 1ST AND 2ND CHOICE. She told me that was fine  - my 1st choice, then it kept changing. Then i put to end of list and told last pups colour. Then i was informed people before me changed mind and coluor and pup changed again. All this without a picture.
Anyway i am looking for another breeder. I don't want to go through monthsof this again.
Thanks

Sorry you have been so messed about Colin - you have had a bit of a non starter experience by the sound of it.  Dont think of all breeders the same,

It is very simple to get a good quality puppy.  Ask the right questions and expect the answers to be verifiable.  Hip scores on parentage and pedigree can be verified by the K.C> in the UK or by SV in Europe.

Pedigree can be verified so can registration certificate.

My advice?   When all that is done you check out the temperament YOURSELF of mum and dad if dad is around, but often we go out to look out of our property for a suitable stud dog, so you may not meet him.... however, mum shuld be friendly and sociable,   Straight back?   Not correct.   There should be a very slight, almost unidenitifiable slope from withers to croup, not a ski slope not a coffee table and hardly noticeable when the dog is not stood for the show ring stance.

That way, you are getting a dog that stands a better chance of good construction, and hip scored favourably - with a good temperament - colour?  secondary, its not an ornament, I never asked for blonde kids or brown eyed kids, I loved me as they were but I was very pleased they were healthy and of good temperament  (hope they dont read this)

Hi Carole,

Yes Penny is myself, but its very frustrating, as I didnt want a pseudonym- I prefer, like you to think that every comment I make on this board, whether correct, or needing correcting, is made with the knowledge that I`m not hiding behind any other name - however, when I joined, and let me tel you I am very self taught on the computer, I was asked t put in a name, and it was the name of my little old rescue of 17 years.  Then I realised that I became Penny  !!!!!
If anyone knows how I can change it to Mo - I would love to do it, but have tried several times, without success.

Mo - Mascani.

Have a search for such affix,s as Bilnetts, Penwartha,Norwulf, Strco, Lewemma
or breeders Bill Petrie., Gary Gray, Bill Jackson, Tracy Wall
Suggest you keep away from anything with Lornaville in Pedigree, very extreme Body shape.

Can I just say that for years we were "English"  type but changed to "German" type many years ago. Best thing we have ever done, Better Health (Hips, etc) Better Temperment, Better movement, etc

If in Doubt try to have a look at some of the Video`s on youtube from the Sieger Show

One thing from the original post that worries me is the mention of three colour's.  GSDs traditionally come in Black and Gold or Sable.  Yes there are black's and white, blue's and livers, but I have found that people who breed for colour often lose sight of the need for construction Temperament, health and fit for purpose.

A dog however is more than a topline, leg length or colour.  I would recommend finding a breeder before there are puppies, getting to know them and their dogs, make sure that the health screening is in place and that you like the attitude and temperament  of the potential parents before looking for the puppy.

Also out there there are variations within breedings, not all germanic lines have extensive ski slope backs (as perceived by joe public) and not all English are coffee table's with a leg at each corner.

Another way to find a good breeder is when you are out and you see a dog you like, ask the owner where you got it from, and can they recommend the breeder, and what kind of rapport they got with them.

Remember many good breeders have waiting lists, so find a good one and get in line!
