Hello everyone,

I was playing on the internet and looking at odd and ends when I came across a two day old puppy with a cleft pallet. The owner cannot keep him anymore because the rest of the litter. (I am waiting for information from the breeder so I do not know much.) She did state in her ad that the puppy has to go SOON ASAP to a good home!

I did some research and emailed her. Now I need some help. Has anyone dealt with a newborn with a cleft pallet? If so, what is the best way to fed him? Tube feeding? I was told by a small bottle that has a needle of a hole in it, but it did not sound right to me. How much does the surgery usually cost to repair it? If she does email me back and I get him, I will call the vet ASAP in the morning.

Is there a good formula to feed him? He is a pure-bred boxer. I will hopefully have more information about him later tonight. I am crossing my fingers that she finds him someone great very soon.

Thanks
RockyMud

PS
Hopefully this posts in the German Shepherd forum....

I cannot believe that any breeder would even consider offering a 2 day old puppy with a cleft pallet, she should have him PTS.
I am having difficulty even finding the right words here but the breeder should deal with this puppy and not try to find some other person to take care of something that is morally her problem.
It is hard work dealing with a cleft pallet the puppy would need to be tube fed and surgery, if he survives would be very expensive.
Bless you for even giving him some thought, but you should forget him, you will probably have your heart broken.

Dogshome9,

I just want to help. Even if I get him, and put him to sleep myself, I will feel so much better. Some people in my opinion should not breed, I do not care who they are.
Thank you! I will hopefully hear something from her tomorrow. Then I will call my vet. She is maybe 20 minutes away from me, and I just could not believe my eyes when I saw the ad.

Thanks again,
RockyMud

I think it would be very expensive and could have other problems later.
To save one you should make it yours, and everyone has limits as to what they can do and cannot do.
I guess my views have always been you can't save them all.  You can save a few, and they should be chosen wisely.
The breeder is the one who has the burden,  and the problem.

The newborn puppy died with the breeder today.

Thank you all,

Thank goodness it's suffering has ended.  Bless you for trying to help but it was doomed from the start, bless it's little heart.
