Can you get a show rating without a sch. title?? Or can you get a breed survey without anything else. I'm not doing it just wondering so don't get mad just a question? Thank you for your time.

Yes, you can. As long as the dog is under 2 years AT THE TIME OF THE SHOW. If anyone gets mad at this question, they're just looking for something to *itch about anyway, so just ignore them and go ahead and DO IT! You SHOULD get a rating on your dog! As many as possible, in fact. As you learn more, so will your animal, and the better it will do at the shows. :) Dogs do not NORMALLY get their Schutzhund titles until after they are a year old (does anyone know of any exceptions?), just FYI, and there are multiple show classes for dogs 1 year and under. Hope this helps!

Hello Robin The highest rating that you can get without a title is an SG Rating. In North America you can also compete in the Open Class which is for males and females that are over 24 months of age and do not have a Schutzhund or recognized IPO Title. In the Open Class the highest raing that can be awarded is SG just like in the 12-18 month and 18-24 month classes. The Breed Survey requires the dog having a recognized title and the prerequisite AD,BH.

USA no longer has 24 months and over without a title. USA decided to follow the SV on this. WDA still does the over 24 months without a title, however. Michael...not just SG; you can get a VP or P as well, if the dog in question is a pup. :) Good luck!

Speaking of titling your dog to Schutzhund...has anyone experienced this EXTREME bias in that regard? Many of my new pup owners have expressed a desire to have thier pup Schutzhund trained. The ONLY club in this area is so "anti" conformation lines, that they actually tell people things like "save your money, your dog will never make it". "Conformation dogs are just pretty pets", etc. etc. They have said on many occasions, when confronted with the fact that the parents are all SchH titled from Germany, then the usual response is "in Germany titles are bought and paid for everyday, and that does not mean the dog can pass a test in the real world!" I just cannot understand this mentality and am wondering if the USA should be made aware of it, or if in fact care. I have experienced the very same attitude myself in trying to pursue further SchH training for my own dogs. Since this is the only sanctioned Schutzhund club in the area, this leaves a wide gap, and an almost impossible situation for people of conformation lines to truly pursue their goals. Either drive several hours to train, or send their dogs off to Germany to be titled. I just cannot fathom this type of "machismo" attitude, and was wondering if there are any valid suggestions??

Sad and pathetic attitude on their behalf, in my opinion. A dog is a dog. If you work with them, the majority of them CAN do Schutzhund. Even if it's a mutt, it would probably pass if trained correctly. JMHO, again. :)
