This might seem a bit weird, but I know all GSD people have issues with so much shedding. My daughter bought me one of these ONE SWEEP brooms. A very cheap, funny looking broom. I am so amazed at how well it picks up dog hair that I had to share. I have used every high end vacuum, and so many other products- but this broom is fantastic! I even "sweep" my furniture with it, and all the hair comes right off. I am not working on a commision or anything (lol), but I always like to get tips for dog hair that work, so I am just passing my good experience along. http://www.seenontv.com/prod-pages/OneSweepBroom.html

I also went to a Garden Show in the States and bought two and gave my friend one. We swear by them, slides dirst, bebree, dog hair and all into a pile, get a whisp broom and dump, quick and easy. It complies some electric static is why hair sticks to it so well. I am with you, I love my new broom I got this summer!!! Jill

Is it only for a smooth surface or will work on the carpet too?

Carpet, furniture- wet surface or dry. Wood floors, ceramic- you name it. It is GREAT. For $9.95 you can't lose!!
