I just registered with this site, but have been here reading the articles and comments posted here for some time. Now I'd like to voice out what I think. First, I think it's silly for some tens-of-years old people to be trying to spread rumours about another tens-of-years old man. Solo (Mr. David), though may not be a 100% likeable man, is an upright person and I respect him. He is one who speaks the truth, and fights against what he thinks is unfair. On the banning of Nero, he's such a great male and it's really a big pity that he can't take part in the shows anymore. However he had an so-called illegal operation and we respect SV's decision to ban him. BUT, why on earth are all the descendants of Nero banned as well?? When there's a dad who steals, you can't assume his children WILL steal too, and hence put them all in jail!! When people are talking about human rights, why aren't the INNOCENT dogs from Nero given their own rights to lift their heads up high? Why are they so cruelly labelled "Banned for LIFE because of a cheating father's owner"?? To be honest, I just got my first GSD from Germany. He's a son of Nero and SG4 Frauke, a daughter of Yasko vom Farbenspiel. He's from such an excellent combination that I rejected an offer of a Zamp's son, who comes from one of the most well-known kennels whose owner is a most well known SV judge. This male from Nero is wonderful. Nice looks, nice character. The only bad thing about him is that he is now a "Banned Item". Item because SV thinks dogs are items. Dogs are not respected as "living animals". Here I'd like to say, like many other people from China, I am starting to lose confidence and interest in the SV and the Sieger Show. The Sieger Show seems more like a politics event. I even start to think, are all the progeny of Nero banned because we chose Nero's male instead of a judge's dog. Such is our current view of the SV.

The simple solution would be; Wait, this is too simple. It would serve both the progeny and keep the justice in the system. Why not let the Nero Progeny remain registered as long as the breeding was done before the ban. (As is customary) Go ahead and use this situation as the reason to make hip and elbow ratings mandatory for all dogs. Make sure Nero progeny have good hips and elbows to retain breeding rights. Allow breeders decide if they want to use the dogs. Let the SV deal with Nero's owner in whatever way it sees fit. Let the governing body decide the course of action against the one who is guilty and deal with that one to one. If it's banning the owner, fines for the owner, whatever the restitution let the SV decide that. Both interests are served. The breed is served for those that want the option to continue the lines. Justice is served for those that consider circumventing the system again.

I'm sure there are those that know much more than I. I hate to spread gossip also. From the information I have from a few SV judges as of 9/20,is that no one really knows yet, or at least there is no official public information. It is suspected or at least possible that the operation was not performed to correct a genetic fault. This makes sense. You can't operate on a hip to make it normal if it's a bad hip. Part of the problem as I understand it, is there is a regulation that states any dog that undergoes surgery is banned from breeding. There is an appeals process where each case is reviewed. This was not done with Nero. So there's a mess. I'm sure there will be more and accurate information as the situation unfolds.

Shanghai, You said “When there's a dad who steals, you can't assume his children WILL steal too, and hence put them all in jail!! “ Were not talking about Nero’s temperament and what he does and doesn’t do. We are discussing Nero’s genetic fault and the possible rumors of Nero having some kind of Elbow issue that needed surgery. I know how upset you must feel since you paid a lot of money on a Nero son. I’m sure that you wanted to show and use him for stud dog but you should understand what SV is trying to do and prevent from any Genetic fault carry within the breed. We already have a Hip issue, we don’t need anymore. SV knows the real problem and knows the real facts of the reason for Neros surgery and I’m sure their not just picking on him. I respect SV for what they’re doing because it really shows that they care for the breed. Don’t get my post the wrong way (including others) but you should not post complaints on here because of the ban because nothing will be accomplished. If you really want the ban to be lifted create an online petition and have people sign it and request that SV explain everything about Nero including ALL of his medical records, since he was born and the day he was banned. This includes an English version of the explanation so the ones who don’t understand German could still read it.

If the sire is removed, all subsequent progeny must be removed. This has happened to quite a few other dogs over the last few years and this won't be the last time. Look at all the "Top" Nero son's being advertised for sale. Wonder if the sellers are letting the would be buyers know that they will be purchasing UNREGISTERED DOGS. The ads should specify that they are for PET HOMES ONLY and they should be priced accordingly with full disclosure of the loss of registration. oh wait...I'm assuming brokers to be ethical...My bad.

Thanks for all your replies. It's the first time I post a message here and I'm glad that others are "listening" to me and posting valuable comments and advice. First, I absolutely agree with Dog1. Let Nero's progeny remain registered if the breeding was done before the ban. If they fail the requirements, then ban them. If they meet or surplus the requirements, don't you think they can serve the breed well? Why ban them? On Nero's owner, well, if he really performed the operation on Nero because he was thinking of "cheating" so that Nero can get high rankings in the shows, then he ought to be banned himself. But most of us don't know the facts yet, and there are often two sides to everything. Who knows, maybe Nero was like in pain or something like that, and the owner had no choice but to perform an operation, and after that Nero was good again and the owner might thought it was alright to show him because he's such a great male and it would be a waste for the breed if he just ends his career that way? We don't really know what happened, do we? If Nero's progeny really has genetic problems, then alright, like what Garry said, they ought to be banned. However, have they been proved to be having genetic problems, in the first place? You are right, M.Carter, now the dogs from Nero must be specified "Home pets ONLY". It's a shame they become "No-Value Items" overnight, when the night before, they were still hot cakes. You can say they are "Expired Milk" now. No one takes them. Do these wonderful young dogs deserve it? Brittany, yes, thanks for your advice. Solo was talking about Nero too, and I may want to ask him if we can create an online petition and let SV explain everything. And yes, I am upset. Not because I spent a lot of money for my dog who is now just a "banned item". I am very upset because it's very unfair to the young dog. You know, others ask me "Oh, you got this dog from Germany? He looks great! His parents must be champion dogs?" Yes, champion dog. SG1 in his first Sieger Show and VA5 in the second. But this Champion dog is now BANNED, and all his little Champions are banned too! People who don't know about Nero and SV would go like this, "Useless dog then. Why did you get him?" Well, now this young dog lives in my house, sleeps on my legs. He's a pityful German Shepherd dog. From a prince, he becomes a frog. No one bothers about him. But I will continue to take good care of him, because to me, he's not just a dog, but my child.
