Again, not my litter just curious:

Can Blk/tan dam (her parents are blk/red and sable) bred with blk/red showline have an all black puppy?

The same science applies, Missyfly. Black recessive is the color and the pattern. It can be masked by the Saddle pattern and the Sable pattern. Are there any blacks in the Showline pedigrees to indicate the saddle pattern could be masking the recessive black gene? The sable gene was not expressed in the B&T dam, therefore it was not passed onto her or her offspring, as it is a dominant gene.

I sure hope I got that right! LOL

Maybe but not because blk/tan dogs can't have black puppies. In order to have a pure black puppy both parents must carry the recessive Black gene. In order for these pups to have a pure black pup the Dam who has one parent as a Sable must have inherited the Black gene from the sable parent if the Sable parent even carries the gene. My suggestion would be to pull up the offspring of the sable parent and see if any have ever been black, if they have then that parent does carry the gene and the Dam Certainly carries the black gene.

The reason I can be sure of this is because the dam is black and tan, and as sable is dominant and the dam is not sable then the dam would have inherited the sables other gene which could be black. However because you are breeding it to a blk/tan showline it is unlikely that the Sire carries the black recessive gene just because not many showline carry the black. Not to say they don't they surely do but it is not as common in the showline as it is the working line. Once again check the offspring if the sire has sired black pups before then he does carry the gene. If you post the dogs involved pedigree I could take a look to see what I see. I know it is confusing please feel free to ask any clarifying questions if you want. :)
