GSDs in the German Press - Page 1

There has been an outcry in the German (and International) Press since the NRW Police supposedly said that its force replaced the GSD with the Malinois. Supposedly, because it was taken out of context and a correction was released - see SV homepage.
Apparantly, this retraction never reached one of its originating magazines, the Spiegel. Now, the Spiegel is one of Germany's most influental and important political magazines and the views are usually fairly in the middle.
However, what they published today online really tops the cake.
A quick summary: The GSD is described as "Dick und Doof" (which is a reference to an ancient Black and White Comedy Series in Germany), Fat and Stupid! Wayne Curry (!!!!!) is described as a self-proclaimed savior of the GSD by storing semen of some of his famous dogs in a semen bank. He can bring back the old type by using his material. He calls the Malinois a "disposable dog" (Wegwerfhund),and the Rottweiler would run if given a chance. In addition, he is quoted in saying "that he is no pimp and that he would never offer his dogs to the highest bidder". Curry has a dog (a black beast) named "Oruger", affectionately called "Rudy" who is trained by his partner Anthony Akers. Akers is supposed to turn him (the black beast) into a sharpened fighting machine.
What an article! It also mentions Hitler's taste for his female "Blondie" and that he killed her a day before taking his own life. She wore a collar with the imprint "Immer mit Dir" (forever with you). It goes on to make it sound that over 50% of the GSDs must have HD with the sloping backline!
This article really tops the list of "intellectual diarrhea". I nearly spit out my coffee this morning reading it! Sorry for my vent and I will now visit the German discussion boards to see if there is an outrage about that already.

Oh my, oh my! Read through the article. I never liked the "Spiegel" because of the "intellectual diarrhea" (that sure fits!..lol). Cant really believe half of whats written in there; they always like to set that certain flea into your ear...

Badly written article in general... everything was just so mixed together that a clear point is missing. its Kraftwerk vs show vs Hitler vs work vs secrets learnt by wayne while drinking with the germans....

AMAZING is the word that comes to mind......*well, right AFTER a few others..*

I don't know about the German Police but many departments in the US are switching to Belgian Malinois' and Dutch Shepherds.  When I go to test and evaluate potential Police K-9's it is very hard to find suitable GSD's.  The washout rate of GSD's to Malinois is much higher and the number of suitable GSD's available has greatly decreased.  Vendors importing dogs in my area have been increasingly importing Malinois and DS and very few GSD's these days.  I expect in the next 5 years or so I won't have any suitable GSD's to choose from at this rate.  Unless of course wayne can really save the breed, I have my fingers crossed on that.

I would recommend not to drink coffee until you have read all of the magazines!

In my opinion the Spiegel has lost it's reputation a long time ago...I stopped reading it in the 90's because of increasing sensationalizm rather than well researched facts...
