Hi Guys,
I have a question, I have a very nice female that I recently purchased. She is having problems getting pregnant. She has been bred 3 times. 1st two times she was bred, she had puppies but re-absorbed them after 5 weeks gestation. I just bred her myself, and after an ultra sound again no puppies. Overies and uterus are all normal according to my vet
Has anyone ever encountered these types of problems?
Thanks for any help.

1. How often does she come in heat?..........2.hHave you done a cervical culture ( to see if she has bacteria in the uterus ) , Brucella/Brucellosis test , and Progesterone before breeding ?

I have heard of this before and suggested progesterone testing.  It really works.
What bloodlines does she have?  This could be something carried through the mother's line.  Have you changed her environment drastically during pregnancy?

Have your vet check her progesterone levels when getting ready to be bred, during breeding, AND throughout pregnancy.
A bitch's progesterone & hormone levels must be kept at a proper level to insure gestation.
Many vet's do not check or even suggest...before...during & after.
Good luck.

What are females given to keep their hormones in check? Is it some type of oil or pill?

by crhuerta on 13 October 2011 - 11:10

Gimmi......some repro vets will administer Progesterone Shots....anything else?...I'm not sure.
Germany uses them......actually (that is the first place that I even heard of them).
My answer would be to contact a Repro Specialist....if you have a concern.
We had a female that had Pyo...and we "cleared" her of the infection. The vet recommended that we breed her next cycle and we did.  During her cycle, during & after breeding he tested her....to make sure her levels "stayed" where they should be for gestation.  This is how *I learned about the before, during & after*.
BTW...she never conceived a litter.....but her levels did maintain proper balance.

I bought this female in the beginning of September. She was already in heat since about 2 days. I bred her on the 11 th day of her heat cycle. And again a few more times. I don't know exactly her heat cycles because I just got her, I am just going on what the previous owner told me. I have contacted a repro specialist and am waiting to hear back from her. I will not be breeding her on her next cycle as I want to compete with the dog next summer. But will get the necessary tests done to know where I stand. Thanks

also the male has he been checked over and he is fine, then there is one test that i know dogs will not have puppies , that i highly  think you should check for that is Mycoplasma it cause low numbers or non at all. when i got my female from german i had her check for that and she did have it, i got her cleaned and she double the size of puppies, alot of breeder do the min. with there breeding dogs , i dont, i check for every thing. hope this helps.

its very easy to get rid of Mycoplasma on female , but male have alot harder time getting rid of it.and some males never do, they  can go sterile.
