I love the ease of using a kiddie pool, but also worry about no pig rails and crushed pups. So ... here's my idea. Seems to be sturdy enough and is keeping momma off the edge of the pool. However, this would obviously not be ideal for a chewer. For anyone who doesn't know, those are pool noodles I used for the pig rails. Safety wire is holding it in place. It took maybe 5 minutes to install.

personally, i don't like to see people use plastic pools.  they are not stable enough and easily tipped.  with a high strung dam, they can be lethal for the pups.  a traditional welping box with pig rails is much safer for the pups and provides a more natural atmosphere for all.  i tried the pool one time and will never do it again.

Funny, I was thinking about using pool noodles, but I worried about chewing.  I know other breeders use the corrugated plastic drain pipe held in place by zip ties.

The noodles are a neat idea, do they seem to be staying in place?  By the time I have another litter I will have a box, but the pool worked well for me for a small litter. Good luck with those beautiful babies!

Shepherdmom - I would not use this for a chewer. Luckily, the dam of this litter is not a chewer. I had not thought about a drain pipe.

Stacy - Yes, they stay in place and seem to work well. I used safety wire, though.

I used a box once a LONG time ago and it was a pain in the rear. I need something portable and lightweight, which is why I like the pool so much.

Ziegen - if you use an ex pen around the pool, it will not tip or move.
