Hey, i hav a 3 1/2 month old male gsd and when he goes for a pee he doesnt squat or cock his leg he just stands and streches. is this normal. i wasn't worried but then a friend of mine suggested it could be a sign on bad hips is this true?

Quite normal for a pup of his age.

Females squat and males will generally not lift their leg until older.

I would not be worried about his hips.

I have a male puppy at 6 months (admittedly not gsd) and all he does is drop his belly down slightly (as if going to crouch) not squatting and certainly no leg lifting!

My four month old strikes a stance, stretches out long to go. I have never heard that this was an orthopedic sign....

My Sabin is six years now and he has excellent hips and still does not cock his leg.

Hero is 11 months is still doesn't hike his leg.

A friend had a female that did, just like a male......crazy!

I'm sooooooooo proud of my lil pup.. Ikon is almost 4 months, and started cocking his leg the other day... admittedly he doesn't hold it up for a long pee, but it's a start... he he... such a lil Studly boy!!

Is your friend a orthopedic specialist? everybody always have comments- he is a puppy -you cant tell by the way a puppy pee's that he has bad hips -lol

Want to talking about peeing stories - My boy is 8 months old - and he stretches just a little - cocks his tale straight up - and pee's all over his right leg - every time....and each time it is at least 8 minutes long...lol - got more pee in my puppy than a 5 gal jug...

My male didn't start lifting his leg all the time until I brought my girl home. until then he did the stretch n pee thing a lot...and most of the time would drop his wubba, take a step or two and ended up 'going' on the wubba
